Love to see the way they dressed the kids in the 1890's. Negaunee Public Library has preserved many U.P. images from this period, like a mini-time machine taking us back for a closer look. The man in the rocking chair is probably holding his grandson, who, in a few of years, will trade the frilly dress for knickers and a tam.

We send along Father's Day greetings to dads and grand-dads everywhere. Hope your day is a good one. There's still a lot to do this weekend if you're in the Copper Country, as Bridgefest has officially kicked-off the summer travel season. In less than 2 weeks we'll have a little 'fest' of our own in Calumet as PastyFest 2007 is your chance to sample a delicious taste of the U.P. Join us June 30 in Agassiz Park for this annual tradition.

Have a good week :o)

Our Grandpa Rod took care of us without the aid of Gram several times. His secret: A big bottle of either "red" or "orange" soda pop and vanilla ice cream. That is how we learned about ice cream floats. Happy Father's day!

Happy Father's Day to all dads. papas, gramps or whatever title he goes by. Speaking of grandpas, my favorite memory of my gentle, loving grandpa Slattery..."Red" or Jerry of Hubbell in the 40's and 50's. I always picture him in his rocking chair on the glassed in front porch, a hand rolled ciggaret between his fingers. I watched as it would burn down almost burning his fingers already stained yellow.

I sure remember those hats. My great-grandpa and grandpa both
had their versions of them.

A favorite way to spend father's day (either with a father or
grandfather) is to have a Boston cooler. Made, of course, with
Vernors. In fact, my dad and I had ours a couple of weeks early
when I was in the LP. We'll have to try another next weekend
before he leaves for the UP.

Happy Father's Day, Dad!

Happy Fathers day, I'll be calling my Dad soon! My mom has a great picture of my grandpa in the 20's all dressed up to play in the snow. Nothing but white in the background, with a corner of the house. The Copper Country in the Winter of course.

My Grandpa (the only one I knew, as my other one passed away nine years before I was born) used to wear a hat like that one in the summer. I had missed the hat--thanks for pointing it out, Kosk.

Adzie, I am so sorry to hear that your Dad passed away, and so close to this Father's Day! I am sure that this one will be especially hard! My prayers are with you!

For those of you who happen to be lucky enough to still have your Dads or Grandpas--treasure them while you still have them, and tell them that you love them often!

Here's a little advice for kids whose fathers are still living:

As I pour through my dad's meager archive, I have thousands of questions to ask him. Unfortunately he is gone. More unfortunate is the fact that during the summer of the year preceeding my first year in college, I rode to work with him every day and evening across town (Detroit), over an hour each way. I was much too tired during these trips to talk much and so I slept usually. What I wouldn't do to have one of those trips with him awaiting me tomorrow morning......

The advice: ask your pop a lot of questions while he is around. You'll never regret it.

Sage advice, Commodore.

Father's Day wishes to my late father, Robert Briggs, who passed away a year ago in May. I'm sure he's spending his day in heaven with his mama and dad, brothers and sisters, and his dog, Pal.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there.

A special Father's Day wish to all the service members who are deployed and can't be with their children today.

My dad died 18 yrs. ago this year, but Bob and I still honor his memory by a long ride on our "His" and "Hers" Harley Davidsons. A little hobby that I owe to my dad who inspired me to learn to ride in the drivers seat.
