If you've seen the spectacular view of Copper Harbor from the "nose" of Brockway, you can imagine what it would be like if there was a mirror image of the mountain just east of the town. Today our imagination soars with Neil Harri in a fly-by over the Fanny Hooe Resort, then the busting downtown district, which includes: the Grant Township Community Center, Pines Resort, Mariner North, Keweenaw Adventure Company,North Port Motel,King Copper Motel, and the Isle Royale Line. (Sorry if we missed anybody).

If you're driving up to Copper Harbor late this afternoon, be sure to stop in at the Hut on US-41 in Kearsarge between 5 - 7 pm and sample one of our picnic pasties, and other free refreshments during the Keweenaw Peninsula Chamber of Commerce "Business After Hours".

Very nice shots again! But then with Neil taking them, how can they not be?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 08:26 am:

Beautiful photos once again by Mr. Harri. If I were in the Keweenaw today, I would surely stop by the Hut for that picnic pasty sample.

Just be careful about free samples there Charlie; I hear there's a bear out there that loves to raid "pic-a-nic" baskets this time of year...... ;-)

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 08:32 am:

Great pictures, Neil. I have loved Copper Harbor from any angle, from the first time I ever saw it! :-) Might as well mention Fort Wilkins State Park, too.

What's a picnic pasty?

By F.F. (Flipflop) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 09:12 am:

Beautiful pictures. In the first pic, is there a name for the little lake or pond just showing on the left center ?

By Marcia H. (Livinindenver) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 09:21 am:

One of my favorite locations in the Copper Country!!

By Cotton (Cotton) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 09:48 am:

Nice pictures Neil. Hey could you fly over Central sometime so people can see the Rozman camp & the church & the old houses? When I talk about the camp at Central I think they expect to see a lake. And I've told them about the church only having services once a year (plus Rick & I were married there). It would make for a nice picture don't you you think? Thanks buddy Hubby says "Hi"

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 09:48 am:

Those are great shots of a little taste of Heaven on Earth!

By Anna Roehrich (Updreamer) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 10:11 am:

In the first picture, I think I can pick out the Harboe Haus. Boy, could I go for their strawberry crepes with fresh whipped cream...that is one of the best breakfasts I have ever had.

Thanks, Neil Harri...I always love your view of the UP.

By Anna Roehrich (Updreamer) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 10:13 am:

Oops, should be Harbor Haus, not "Harboe Haus". I always notice the typos just AFTER I hit "post". :-)

By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 10:44 am:

Hello All
F.F. asked about the pond on the left of the first picture, didn't the township have to build that pond as part of a wetlands mediation(sp).

Good to see the rain here in Delta county, first good rain this year, overnight we received .80 inches and still raining.

UP dreamer: Don't feel bad. Charley thinks downtown Copper Harbor is busting. (sorry, Charley, couldn't help myself.)

OK, Maija, the "L" on my keyboard has been a bit touchy latey.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 12:33 pm:

The Harbor seems so small from that height! Beautiful picture, Neil.

By E. Neil Harri (Ilmayksi) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 01:43 pm:

That pond on left, middle of picture is Serene Pond. It was named after "Clyde" Wescoat's grandmother whose name was Serene.
Cotton, I have lots of Central pics. I will send one to Mary to post or send me an email. Hi to your husband.

By Donald Kilpela (Commodore) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 01:49 pm:

I love looking at old pictures to see if I can discern when they were taken. This one had to be taken a year ago when the water was significantly higher and my parking lot grass hadn't yet sprouted. There are other clues as well. I like to look at much older photos as well, such Houghton Police Chief Rafelli's extyensive collect that he displays in Dee Stadium during the summer. Getting an accurate date on them is pretty tough. You've left a magnificant collection for history, Neil, and we all thank you for it.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Monday, June 4, 2007 - 11:34 pm:

I dumped out 1.65" from the rain gauge this morning in Cornell. Big puddles in the driveway, too. Pretty soon it'll be time to get the old Cub Cadet fired up again. You can almost HEAR that grass growing. :o)
