One of my personal favorite shots from eight years ago on the Pasty Cam, taken by Jonathan from the Lift Bridge looking across the canal on the Ramada side.

Good morning from high atop the Vec Tower in Warren.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 06:36 am:

Good Morning from mid-Michigan. It's supposed to be mostly sunny, with a nice 82 degrees here today! That sounds like a keeper to me!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 06:54 am:

Good morning from Minnesota. Weather's been hot, just the way I like it. Maybe we'll even get some rain one of these days. They keep threatening, but it never happens.

C.C. & Pasty bound tomorrow, can't wait!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 07:58 am:

Have a great trip, Uncle Chuck! How long are you going to stay up there?

I'm hoping that we can get up there in late June, if I can a time when the schedules of my three sons & husband & me have a few days that we can spend together. You know, when my sons were very small, I used to think that things would settle down, and we would have more time to do things when they got a little bit older. As they got older, I've discovered that it is much harder it is now to get things together then it was when they were much younger. Aahhh, the lessons we learn...

Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful time UP there! Take care!

By Charles In Esky (Charlesinesky) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 08:05 am:

Well, I will add one of those greetings too. Good morning from
Esky where the temp might hit 70 today. (One of the surprising
things about moving up here was to discover how often it was
warmer on the Lake Superior side of the U.P. We gets lots less
snow here in Esky, but that doesn't mean it is any warmer.
Mayeit will be this summer tho.)

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 08:06 am:

Thanks Marianne, one great week!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 08:49 am:

Greetings from Lansing, our fair Capital City! Wait a minute, I misspoke...did I say fair? Hmmm...with all the wondering and worrying about what they will do to us state employees, I take that "fair" part back. It is a lovely day, though, here in Lansing. Mother Nature is being very kind to us today.

By s. dearing (Geebeed) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 08:57 am:

Good Morning from sunny, central Indiana! Rain showers are forecast for the weekend.....not good for the 500, but we could use the rain.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 09:24 am:

We just had some nasty storms roll through the Houston area this morning; I know, I watched them chase me all the way to work!! The weatherlady here (can't trust the weathermen here, they lie and they're not as pretty ;-) says this was round 1; round 2 is coming later today, just in time for the afternoon rush.....

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 09:32 am:

Capt Paul & Dr Nat, I was just looking at the Houston radar (on front page of this morning's Chronicle on their web site), & noticing those storms. I figured that you all had a stormy commute this morning. Stay safe!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 10:40 am:

We have rain/thunderstorms forecast for Saturday & Sunday, but probably not severe. So far, they are talking about a decent Monday, with a high in the upper 60's. That sure beats the 90's last year! My youngest son was told that three of the high school's band members passed out last year, associated with the heat at our local Memorial Day Parade. So, I will be very thankful for a cool Monday!!!

If we have a rainy weekend, we have plenty to do inside! :-) On the other hand, Memorial Weekend is when we usually plant our annuals. I need to find the time to go buy them first. If weather delays planting a few days, it's not the end of the world, because of our late frosts and freezes this year.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 10:56 am:

Roudy, I'm responding to your post on Cam Notes because I think I have already posted my limit for today over there, but this side does not have a limit.

Your post on the bugs' drinking was great! I laughed out loud the whole time, while I was reading it! Thanks for such a great post!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 11:19 am:

Good morning, happy for the nice weather. Everyone enjoy!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 12:45 pm:

Actually my commute was dry, and the good Doc has the next couple weeks off before she teaches summer session for 5 weeks. Right now it's just gray and dreary, but we're supposed to get more storms this afternoon.

Well, our countdown is on!! 67 days until we're in the copper country for a couple weeks. And the best part, no schedule; we're just going to ride the wind and see where it takes us......

My sincerest sympathy today to the Drew family on the recent passing of Mary's father- in-law.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 02:34 pm:

Gas is $3.59 in Genesee.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 03:47 pm:

My thoughts and prayers are with Mary Drew and her family on the passing of her father-in-law! That's the last thing that you needed, Mary.

How's Kevin doing this week? I really hope that he & his donor are doing well!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 03:59 pm:

Someone that I know from down near Lansing first alerted me to this sudden gas price increase this afternoon. In her town, she filled her car last night at $3.39/gal, but the price late this morning was $3.71/gal!

That did not make a lot of sense to me that the price could rise so fast, so I started my own little search. I found that for those stations in mid-Michigan that showed prices since late this morning, $3.65/gal was the norm. The lower prices that I found listed were from much earlier in the day. That's a great big ouch! I guess the stations all got together (since their prices are all the same) and raised their prices for the holiday weekend earlier in the week than usual, so they could catch people before they filled their cars for the big long weekend?

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 04:11 pm:

I paid $3.49 in Dexter today, not going camping up north this weekend since gas is so much (we like Brimley for a quick trip). I might around here but the camgrounds are booked 100% so wish me luck fining a site.

By Cotton (Cotton) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 08:21 pm:

Good evening from beautiful Gwinn, Michigan. It was a beautiful day here & I'm so happy to be home after a 10 visit to Denver & then a 4 day visit to Lansing. Home sweet home!!! Our gas prices are $3.59 in town. It was the same in Lansing a few days ago. We did see some campers headed up this way from the bridge yesterday. Wouldn't want to be gassing up their rig! Bad enough gassing up our car.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 08:31 pm:

Gas was expensive--$3.49 a gallon in the Ishpeming area. The
snow on the ground on Sunday morning was surprising. Everything
else about the weekend was priceless and wonderful despite the
12-13 hour drive in each direction.

Waiting to move UP in a few years.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 10:14 pm:

Please pray for Mikie and his wife, Precious. They were in a horrible car crash on their way home from Manistee. Mikie is at home and in terrible pain but Precious has a broken neck and broken ribs and will be in the hospital for quite some time.

We love you Mikie!!!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 10:18 pm:

Thanks for letting us know, Deb! I'll be saying my prayers for them
and for Mary Drew's family.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 10:23 pm:

Oh my goodness, gracious! I had no idea that Mikie & Precious were in a bad car accident! I wondered why we haven't heard much from Mikie lately! Thank you so much for letting us know, Deb.

Mikie and Precious, my thoughts and prayers are with you for a full & speedy recovery! I am so sorry to hear about your car accident!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 10:28 pm:

Mary, Ron and I are so sorry about your fil. We'll keep you and Jim in our prayers. You have a lot of your plate. Remember you're only given as much as you can handle.

How is Kevin? Has he had his surgery? Please keep us informed.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 10:45 pm:

My sympathy to the Drew family. And I wish a full recovery for Mikie and his wife.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 - 10:49 pm:

Thank you all for your care and concern and mostly for your prayers. This has been a very trying time.

Kevin is doing as well as can be expected with what he's going through. He's being given pain meds to help and tomorrow is the transplant day, which they refer to as his "birth day", since he will begin to generate a new immune system in the next 12 days or so. The road to recovery is long and painful, but the alternative is much worse, so Kevin continues to need your prayers. As for his donor, his identity will not be revealed to Kevin for a year and a half. But he also needs prayers to recover from the donating and to bless his life from here on for being so generous as to donate his stem blood cells to save a strangers life....that's quite an amazing thing to do.

Lastly, Mikie and Precious...my thoughts and prayers go out to you both, for a speedy and full recovery.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - 04:01 am:

..............................................!
After all the birthdays, this sure is sobering.
Mary, feeling with you. Also, thumbs held for Kevin.
Mikie, hang in there, and best wishes for Precious recovery.

By Cotton (Cotton) on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - 11:41 am:

Mary, I'm sorry that I havn't extended my sympathies to you & your family sooner. And I'll be thinking of Kevin today on his birthday. My son donated his cells & helped a man with leukemia. It's wonderful that there are such caring people in this world to help another person live.
Mikie, my heart goes out to you cousin. I feel so bad about your accident & you & Precious. Know that you have alot of friends praying for both of you.
