Eight years ago along a stretch of Five Mile Point Road near Farmer's Block, on the way to Sandhills Lighthouse, home of the latest Pasty.NET broadband wireless relay. From there we hope to serve many more of the shore's residents, from Sunset Bay to Eagle River.

Good Morning and Happy Birthday Danbury! Cloudy and Rainy day, and my son has no school because they don't have power. He is at work with me watching movies, I love portable DVD players!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 10:04 am:

Danbury -- Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Geburtstag!! Mögen all Deine Wünsche in diesem Jahr wahr werden!

(I have to confess...I have a German friend here in Michigan. She does translations for a living.)

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 10:22 am:

Cindy & Beverly are show-offs! :-) I've forgotten way too much German to wish Danbury a Happy Birthday in German. So, I'll do it the easy way, in English: I hope you are having a Happy Birthday, Danbury!

I think I can translate Cindy's second sentence into English for the rest of us, approximately: May your wishes in the years to come, come true? (Is that close?)

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 10:32 am:

Yes, I believe that's what it says. I told my friend Gudrun to say "I hope the Birthday Fairy is good to you" but she said Germans wouldn't have a clue about that so she changed it to "I hope all your wishes come true." I am no expert at German, not even a rookie; I just have excellent resources. :-)

By Sdcferndale (Sdcferndale) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 02:24 pm:

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag Danbury!

I hope this says Happy Birthday Danbury!

By Danbury (Danbury) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 03:18 pm:

Wow ... ! Thank you all!

You've made my day, which indeed was a happy and pleasant one (to my liking - clouds, wind and rain!). Also, it was a holiday! :) (Ascension Day).

David, good you mentioned it - I seem to have messed up a little when I changed my profile and attempted to just put in the year I was born.

Sdcferndale - you hit it.

Gone2long - I thought it wasn't a translation engine. As to the Birthday Fairy, I do not know about that, but then, it seems to me I've got a whole pasty.cam community to ask. Right?

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 03:28 pm:

The Little Betsy Boy's are makin the trip north next week Wednesday for a week! No guns, just to open up the cottage, get er ready for summer and take in the beauty! Marty, Grammpa Norm, Nephew Ben, and myself. Don't get me wrong, Marty will probably still get us stuck in the woods when we're exploring, just as long as I don't need a life jacket 16 miles deep in the woods.
Lookin forward to a good meal at the Hut, and a couple of Pasties to go. Maybe a trip to Toni's for some tarts and a trip to the Jam Pot for Grammpa Norm, ( he's got to have that carrot cake muffin) I'll bring my lap top, I gotta get some work done. I'll keep all of you posted (won't bother you too much). Like a kid at Christmas, can't wait until next week.
Yeah, don't worry, Marty and the smell of pine tree's, we'll have the TP!

Regards,
UC

First off....Happy Birthday Danbury! Happy Belated Mikie! And any of you other fellow May birthdays, Happy day to you too!

Second, Paul Roberts sent me this picture and here's what he said:

Quote:

A week ago Monday there was a helicopter hovering over the bay in
Marquette. Would it be possible to post this picture on the pasty cam
to find out what the guy was doing out there? I'm sure somebody who
looks at the pasty cam knows or could find out. Thanks!

Anybody have a clue? :->
Helicopter

By
Dunerat (Dunerat) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 05:04 pm:

Mary and Paul --

That's a Coast Guard HH-65A "Dolphin" helicopter, used for search and rescue. I can't tell for sure, but I'll bet good money the watercraft it's hovering over is a Coast Guard Zodiac inflatable patrol and rescue craft. They are probably practicing rescue operations.

I live on Lake Michigan just south of the Muskegon breakwater. We often see these "good guys" out practicing rescues or doing real ones. It's extra cool to see them out there at night with the super high-power searchlight illuminating the spray kicked up by the rotor wash, practicing cable lift rescues off the Zodiac.

Next time you see them out, give the brave men and women of the Coast Guard a salute or a friendly wave. They're out there for you anytime.

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 05:24 pm:

We live just north of Anchor Bay/Lake St. Clair and just west of the St. Clair River. See these guys all the time around here. Often fly right over our house, sometimes low. Besides the regular search and rescue, in this area they are doing border patrol!

Today is also Syttende Mai - Norwegian Independence day. So a happy day for all the Norwegians. Stoughton Wisconsin has a huge Norwegian population and celebrates this big time every year.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 08:32 pm:

Since the good Dr. is Norwegian, she raises a toast to all Norwegians out there.....

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 08:46 pm:

And a toast to the good Dr. Nat and all of the other Norwegians out there! I'm 1/4 Norwegian, as my Grandpa came over here from Norway, and his whole side of the family was from Norway.
