A follow-up to yesterday's note about Michigan State University's Rural Physician Program... First, an almost aerial view of the graduates, where Dr. Katriina (Wills) Hopper of Skandia, Eagle River and Negaunee is in the very middle of the front row. (Looks like Spring is quite a bit further along in our southern peninsula.) You may recall that Jonathan actually proposed to Katriina right here on the Pasty Cam, followed some months later by coverage of their wedding. These years of med school have followed, and now they're off to Katriina's residency at Yale University in Connecticut. No doubt the whole east coast will soon discover the U.P. by way of Dr. Hopper's @pasty.com email address.

Meanwhile, back up north, Michigan Tech grads are jumping for joy, and in the bottom photo Lucas Olli caught one, namely Rob Gilreath, son of Pasty Cammist Bob Gilreath who captured the antics. Lucas and Rob have been friends since pre-schools days and now have both completed degrees in Computer Networks and Systems Administration, obviously glad to reach this milestone.

Congratulations to graduates everywhere and best wishes for the future :o)

Good Morning
Looks like a very happy day for the family.

By Jack K (Jackinct) on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 - 06:03 am:

Congratulations to all the graduates.
I hope Jonathan and Dr. Katriina find the Nutmeg State to their liking. It's a completely different world, especially Yale/New Haven, but it has its good points. Its only a short trip to whatever strikes your fancy, be it a Broadway play or a hike along the Appalachian trail or traveling along the path Paul Revere rode all those years ago.

Living somewhere else will help the couple appreciate the marvelous midwest all the more. This is such a diverse country. All places have their wonderful attributes and their sore points. But give me the good old midwest any time.

Question for my Yooper buddies???
How did the name Bootjack come about??
Everybody asks me where I live in the summer and how it got its name??

Congratulations Katriina! When you get to Yale, look up my friends, Adam and Maria Cottingham. Maria is starting her residency at Yale in Psychology.

The "Rural Physician" sounds like a wonderful choice....God Bless your efforts.

Well.......wanna know what is new with me...???..?? I learned how to ride a 4 wheeler on Mothers Day.....what a blast!!!!!!!! the first ride I screamed over every bump....I couldn't help it....and I jerked myself to death. The second time Beck took me out, Lots less screams and I didn't jerk hardly at all. BUT, I took a digger....oh my gosh, into the air I flew.....then plop on the ground. Beck kept hollerin Mom....Mom...are you ok. Well, all I got was skinned on the side of my shin and the first finger on the R hand was sore. I didn't even hurt the next day!!! Not to bad for a soooooon to be 60 year old with 2 knee replacements.......It was so cool.....anyway Thanks for all the memories you share....God Bless.......xo

Dorothy, I know about bootjacks. It is a wooden board with a vee cut in the end. It has a block of wood on one end to raise it off the floor about a couple of inches. The purpose is to hook the heel of your boot in it to hold it while you pull it off.I guess this was for all the loggers in that area.I got this info from one of the Sarazin girls of Dreamland, who did a show and tell on one while in Suomi college.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 - 11:18 pm:

A bootjack is also handy for someone after cleaning out the cow barn, 'eh? Or da calf pen.
