Jacab's Falls looks just about the same today as it did 8 years ago, although before last week's storm it had completely thawed, looking more like August. Four days of blizzard conditions changed all that.

Good Morning, Everyone! We will be under a Winter Storm Warning this afternoon, beginnning at 3 pm. Ugh! I'm not ready for that on Apr 11 ! For now, we have the calm before the storm.

Charlie, I love Jacob's Falls anytime! Thanks for the memories!

Oh how I remember trudging up the creek and through the woods at these falls when I took and taught geology field camp. If your brave enough (and know exactly where your going), up the creek quite a ways is a special kind of basalt feature that at one time represented pahoehoe lava like what you would see on Hawaii. The falls itself are made up of basalts and also represent the contact boundary between the Portage Lake Volcanics and Copper Harbor Conglomerate.

Of course, the reward at the end of the day for all this hard work is a stop at the Jampot for tasty treats..... ;-)

Good morning from rainy, chilly central Indiana.

We always love to find waterfalls, my 6 year old always gets a disposable camera for our trips. His are often keepers.

Snowing here in Dexter (8 miles from Ann Arbor) supposed to get a few. Probably will since we have outdoor soccer practice for the kid tomorrow.

It's been steady snowfall here in Lansing. We've got at least an inch of the really, really wet stuff, bordering on water, on the ground. It's supposed to turn to rain this afternoon. Fun, fun, fun. It's 31 right now. OK, Mother Nature, not funny anymore...we're sorry...it really is Parkay, not butter.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 - 02:37 pm:

It's snowing hard & sideways (horizontally) here in Midland right now. We have already received phone calls about evening activities cancelled because of adverse weather. I'm wondering if tomorrow will be a snow day here? (We're currently in the area projected to get hit with the most snow, but this is Michigan, so who knows what will really happen in the end?) But, of course, they won't cancel school until tomorrow morning, I suspect, if they do cancel it.

There's nasty weather coming--very windy and freezing rain here
in Toronto. My daughter (in the Ishpeming area) says they are
supposed to get snow, but like Marianne, she's suspicious of the
weather report.
