Eight years ago, the Portage was free of ice, although this navigation aid still looks mighty cold.

This year, the cross-country skiing was wonderful on Saturday morning, then the rains came Saturday night and last night and the season has abruptly ended. The road cyclists have started to appear on the roads, though, marking another changing of the guard as life in the Keweenaw moves along.

Mid-70's in Genesee today! That's too warm!

That 7Up would be the beacon light, I guess? At first glance, it reminded me more of a seat for someone watching over the beach, looking out for mishaps. À la Baywatch.

By Jacobsville (Barb) on Monday, March 26, 2007 - 08:14 am:

Margaret,
It's not a 2 liter 7Up bottle on the light tower (channel marker), it's
the green flashing beacon. But it DOES look like a 7Up bottle,
doesn't it?

It was a nice day yesterday, and yed there were a lot of motorcycles out. We had to go for a walk in the afternoon when the sun came out here. More storms expected today.

Good Morning! It's supposed to be 71 here in mid-Michigan today. No one here is complaining about that--that's about perfect! Even the metereologists are happy with it finally getting up there. It is normal to have a few days in March with high temps in high 60's to low 70's here. Alas, it is not here to last, though. Tomorrow, it's back to highs in the 40's to 60's & rainy for most of the rest of week. Our kids are on spring break this week, so they would like nice weather. I think it is too wet for them to play golf this week, especially with so much rain in the forecast. And the course was flooded this weekend. Oh well, we can appreciate the warmer temps for while.

I didn't realize it, but our crocuses are up & started to bloom! That, along with the occasional song of a bird reminds us that spring really is almost here! Have a great day, everyone!

A 2 liter bottle of 7-UP and 1/2 gal. lime sherbet mixed together make a great punch or party drink.

Does anyone know how or if it's possible to see Gull and Manitou lighthouses? I'll be in the Copper Harbor area on August 12, 13, & 14 and would love to see both of these landmarks, but have been unable to find any information on a means of travel to them. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi CJ
Try this link, but I don't see either listed.

Charter tours are the best way to see both Gull Rock and the
Manitou lighthouses. Or go to High Rock Bay (8 miles east of
Copper Harbor down a 2 track, about an hour in 4WD). Camping
there you can see both lighthouse beacons. They line up right
nicely, but are several miles out. At Manitou there is a deepish
water dock on the Northeast corner of the island, and a short path
to the lighthouse. Well worth visiting. Plus the agate hunting on
various beaches is the best. Especially South Beach. I had to start
throwing out the "little ones" cuz my fanny pack was full in a 100'.
Just don't go out there in anything less than a 21' boat. Remember,
you can play on Lake Superior, just don't play with it. She will
always win.

CJ last year we took the sunset trip with www.isleroyale.com and they traveled north to the gull rock light and then turned south for some of the best sunset pics I have ever taken. See page 13 of my guest gallery https://pasty.com/pcam/radsrh?&page=13 for some pics of the evening.
