I never could figure out what the Ann Arbor News was doing on a remote county road in the Keweenaw.

Wow, the wind overnight! Thought the roof was going to lift off several times.

Charlie--

Must have been a Yooper who went to U of M and brought back a
souvenir.

The picture off Sharon's deck looks really chilly this morning. Batten down the hatches.

When I lived in Ann Arbor the boy next door was a paperboy for the AA news. He made his Mom drive him around in the winter. I think she would have drawn the line on that run.

FJL: You posted a question earlier about Yellow Dog Road. It is in the Marquette area, but I don't know where. Someone took me there. The flood mentioned was a dam that broke. I don't think it affected any dwellings, but it was interesting to see the flood plane and all the vegetation flattened for a pretty large area. If I remember, the road was not marked. (dirt road) My friend got us there by instinct and good directional ability.

By FJL (Langoman) on Monday, March 5, 2007 - 09:23 am:

Thank you Maija. Have a great day......FJL

By Laurie B. (Ratherberiding) on Monday, March 5, 2007 - 10:14 am:

Maija, You couldn't be more wrong when you say that no dwellings were affected by the Dead River Flood. Google either Dead River Flood or Silver Lake Basin flood and you'll see many pictures of the devastation.

Margaret,it IS chilly: 5º, with north winds 24-33 mph! That gives us a wind chill of -17º. I think I'll hibernate today.

Does it seem wrong that yesterday I worked up a sweat mowing my lawn for the first time of the year in Saint Helens, OR? I am roughly as far north as Escanaba, but tempatures are moderated by the ocean, but still. Mowing in early March? I should be cross country skiing, Yeesh!

The donations are coming in to help my nephew and I just want to send out a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all of you that have sent something so far! For an update on things, click on over to Kevin's Story

Got the car stuck in the driveway this evening. The snowdrifts were so hard packed by the wind, the little Mazda couldn't go ahead or back. Had to get the Cub Cadet out to clear the snow, shovel out the wheels and it came out all right then. Temp now is 1°, the moon is nice and bright, but the wind is SO COLD! Brrr!
