It's the bar that made Gay famous. Is Gay, Michigan, famous? They do have one of the more ... eclectic ... 4th of July parades. We also have a photo from eight years ago of the sign and the bar. If you aren't familiar with Gay, it is east, and a little north, of Lake Linden, on the sunrise side of the Keweenaw.

Good morning! Stopped snowing but is now only about 5 degrees. Can't win. Oh well, hopefully in like a lion and out like a lamb.

I guess I showed my ignorance yesterday in the what's UP conversation about sulfide mining. I thought there was heavy local support against it. Not true?

I went down Yellow Dog Road a while ago and saw the territory after the flood. Pretty awesome. (this is true: a yellow dog ran out to chase our car. That's the yellow dog! someone said)

Anyway, the 'local' I was with was soooo against the mining. Others can zoom through comments if not interested, but I am interested in hearing an explanation of the issue.

The Gay Bar is one of many great local places in the Keewawnaw!

Good Morning! Is anyone else ready for Spring?

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, March 3, 2007 - 10:41 am:

How much snow did you end up getting, Deb?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, March 3, 2007 - 10:56 am:

All told we got about a foot!!! And the sun is shining beautifully today, and supposedly, temps nearing 40 next week.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Saturday, March 3, 2007 - 11:13 am:

Ok, let's trade: send your snow and below freezing temps over, and receive our sunshine and high-50s-temps in return! :D

By Cotton (Cotton) on Saturday, March 3, 2007 - 11:29 am:

It's still snowing here. We've gotten over a two feet in the past week & it's still snowing. My hubby is sure getting use of the plow that he hadn't had to use all winter until now. Hope it clears up, I'm leaving by car for Lansing tomorrow.
The Gay Bar is neat. My hubby & his friends would take their out of town friends there during hunting season years ago. Most didn't know anything but what the sign said, THE GAY BAR. So naturally they'll make the friends go in the door first then laugh like heck. They have the best onion rings on a stick & yummy burgers.

What's up with the February contest winners?
Someone from somewhere??? Confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mary says: My guess is that someone forgot to change the "someone from somewhere" in the template for the page. I've emailed the "powers that be", so I'm sure it will be fixed soon!

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Saturday, March 3, 2007 - 03:21 pm:

Me confused too, Grace!
I'm someone from somewhere!
March 21, Marianne!

By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Saturday, March 3, 2007 - 04:26 pm:

Thanks Mary!!!

Hello, we have had on and off flurries all day in Pinckney. I can see how that sign would be easily misunderstood by out of town guests.

By Jerry Johnson (Jerryjohnson62) on Saturday, March 3, 2007 - 10:05 pm:

I was there many times when staying down at betsy, we where always running out of cold beer and I always was glad to make the trip.

Mikie,

I replied to your email and generous offer and am posting that here to be sure you received it, since for some reason, AOL addresses often times block out my email address I've found. Let me know if you don't receive my reply, please! And thank you, Mikie! :-)
