Now I'm not quite sure how Karl Berg was able to hang on and snap these photos at the same time. Perhaps he was suspended over the edge as this ice slide seems to be, just hanging on while the sun continues to warm the sandstone. With all that solar heat, it's going to make it impossible for the ice to hang on much longer. Before you know it, there'll be a large splash heard and the ice will dive into the waters of Lake Superior.

The first one has to be the toes of BIGFOOT, probably deciding if the lake is still too cold for a spring bath!

The piece of ice,in the first picture closest to the cammera. looks like the head of a horse including the eye. Or maybe female moose.

I thought the first picture was a giant hand reaching to test the water.

I love it when the ice is hanging off the Cliffs.

I'm just waiting for the large icicle to "plop" into the icy waters below:)

Would it necessarily be a "plop" or more of a "ker-sploosh"??

And furthermore, if the icicle falls into the water and no one is there to hear it, does it actually make a sound?? ;-)

Capt Paul Would it matter if you knew it was falling? We could hear a tree fall while hiking the pictured rocks last summer but couldn't see where it was, and hoping we weren't in its path.

I'm a BIG fan of the Ker-sploosh! It's pretty much always been my descriptor for ice in Lake Superior-- in fact every spring I wait anxiously to witness and hear a ker-sploosh. Some years I am lucky enough to do so, other years I am not so lucky.

I came upon this site today while searching for Lake Bailey...but this is a geological find with tons of pictures and descriptions of the Keweenaw rock formations, copper, and just a ton of geological information... I'm sure some of you may be aware of this
