I don't know about you, but I never tire of seeing the Keweenaw from the air and thanks to the steady hand of E. Neil Harri, we're lucky enough to be treated to a number of aerial views. This one is on the Bete Grise side, looking north towards Manitou Island off the tip. I like how the ice along the shoreline looks like someone took a white paintbrush and outlined the edge of the land mass we call home! The lakes are highlighted in winter white here too. I know the one farthest north in this picture is Schlatter Lake. Would the other one, closer to us on the screen, be Hoar Lake?

Wow, this photo looks awesome. I went to Manitou Island many years ago. Seemed like a long boat ride but looks so close to Bete Grise from the point of view in the photo.

Always love Neil's shots. I tried to backclick on Saturday's shot of the wolf to show my husband, and could not get it any longer. Nor could I find it in Neil's album.

Thank you for another of your great aerial photos, Neil! I agree with Johnhess that the ice flows look like the wakes of a bunch of small boats. I did a double-take when I first saw the picture, thinking that it was a lot of small boats. That is fascinating.

What a way to see the lay of the land!! I can pick out so many landforms from that one photo. The tip of the Keweenaw is very interesting geologically as well...

A couple years ago I was on a flight from Denver to Las Vegas flying over Utah and the landscapes we flew over were simply awesome. Idiot me though, I didn't pack my camera carry-on, so I couldn't get any photos from my window seat. I remember flying onto the Belcher Islands and it was incredible as well with all the swirling rock structures; we couldn't wait to get on the ground and explore......

Mary, I have been to Hoar Lake many times. In the 50s. a couple of fishing buddies and myself took a 14 ft. boat with a 3/1/2 HP outboard out from Lac Labelle. We camped out on the beach at the mouth of Hoar Creek on Lake Superior The next morning we walked in to Hoar Lake and caught a bunch of Hammer handle pike. There were no roads into the lake at that time, not until the logging operations in there. I have also been to the lake via snowmobile. The lower lake in the pic is Hoar Lake. Carl

This will be brief, since I'm actually away right now, and will return home this evening, but no, Kevin has not had the transplant yet. We've been away for several days, but when we left home, the Dr.'s were still testing 8 people on the registry, that they found that match Kevin initially. I'll try to update more when I get home....Thanks for asking and please keep him in your prayers. Kevin's Story

The white streaks in the water are small islands of pack ice, being blown in on a strong East wind.

The ice floes resemble wakes of ships and landing craft during the Normandy invasion.
