The first photo came to be here in a round-about way. Scott Mitchell actually sent it to me, but was given permission by the owner, Lyle "Skip" Rutter, to do so. The story behind the photo is that Skip has a trail camera behind his house near Limestone, which is southwest of Munising on highway 67. These eagles feasting on roadkill is what his camera captured.

The remaining three shots are from Ray Laakaniemi, who just took a trip to the Mississippi River, half-way between Minneapolis, MN and LaCrosse, WI, to do some eagle watching.

You might wonder why these eagle shots from a different state deserve a spot here today. The answer is that this area is a known wintering over area for eagles and it's thought that some of the U.P. eagles stick around here, until the weather breaks enough to find food UP North here again. The last photo from Ray, is Angel, who is an eagle that is in rehab at the National Eagle Center it Wabasha, MN. Maybe Angel is a summertime resident in the Upper Peninsula, kind of like the snowbirds! :->

These are great, my son loved them too. He is fascinated by all birds.

Wow! I can't believe the luck of that first shot!

The pictures are awsome. There are eagles in our area in Ohio and it is such a great thing to see a eagle soaring. I was driving the other day and I thought I saw a buzzard floating around and when I got closer I saw its white head and I pulled off the road and watched it was beautiful to watch. My husband saw two sitting in a tree the other day and he called me on the phone right away, we are avid bird watchers.

I forgot to mention in my notes, that I posted an update on what's been happening with my nephew Kevin and the fundraising to help him with the bone marrow transplant. If you'd like to read it, click here: Kevin's Story

Great photos of a great bird. In the 1st photo I believe you can see 2 eagles perched in a tree. Look at the tree above the wing on the right. I saved the photo on my computer and blew it up. I'm pretty certain they are eagles waiting their turn at the road kill. Eagles UP here have it rough with all the snow and ice and have to be opportunistic to survive. They should be working on their nests and might possibly be tending to egg(s). The eagles in Maryland are now feeding their eaglets.

This time of year you can see this very thing on US 45 leaving Mass City going down the big long hill over the Ontanagon river, and coming back up the south side almost to Bruce's Crossing.

Eagles are awesome birds. They mean a lot in our family, too, since my oldest son is an Eagle Scout, and my younger two are Life Scouts, working on their Eagle Scout ranks.

There are so many more Eagles (the birds, now) in existence now, that it is fairly easy to see them. I can remember 25 years ago, it was hard to find one. Today, they are even taking up residence in some cities, which would have been difficult to fathom, a couple of decades ago.

Ken: Love the webcam site!
As Marianne noted, the eagles have come back strong, and I often see them in the Traverse City area.
Wings of Wonder (www.wingsofwonder.org) is a raptor rehabilitation and education project nearby that has helped several eagles recover from injuries and illness, and then released them back to the wild. I was very fortunate to be offered an opportunity to photograph three inside a 100 ft. flight cage. Below is one that flew w/in arm's length:

Wow, what a great shot, Dave. How fortunate, indeed. I hope you will put some eagle photos in your album when the gallery is back up. Thanks for sharing this one with us.

A number of schools down here have eagles as their mascot. The school system I have my teaching in are the Fritch Eagles. The one my husband works in is the Canyon Eagles.
