With the blue sky and the setting sun, the surrounding snow and ice along the shores reflect the same shade as the sky. Greta Jones captured the rays of light just right as they're peeking out of the slit in the clouds, before retiring until morning. Thought I'd throw this sunset shot in at the middle of the month, for all of you that might need a calming moment to just stop and stare at the beauty of the Keweenaw, pure and simple.

Ohh. Good choice Mary. I needed a calming effect as I pack and
prepare to leave for the UP tomorrow. Lucky me!

That picture makes me warm and cold at the same time. Wish I were there, with a hot cuppa joe. Thanx.

Nice Pic, though I did have to think about it, thought it was the last day of the month, being in sales, I almost had a panic attack! lol

By Musicteacher (Musicteacher) on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - 11:53 am:

Frankly, I'm tired of the snow pictures. Three in a row
this week, and all seven last week! We, here in
Calumet, see grey skies all winter and we have
shoveled more snow than usual these last few weeks. I
think it is time for a change. Let's look forward to
Spring.... seed catalogues, warm sunshine, children
playing marbles, robins, income tax return check,
raking the lawn, etc, etc....

Mary says: Musicteacher ~ As soon as we start receiving current pictures of the aforementioned activities, they will begin to appear on the daily pages. Unfortunately with the snow still covering the grass around the Keweenaw, I don't think we'll be raking any lawns quite yet. I'm anxious for Spring and the spring pictures too! :->

By Janet Boatman (Janetnwohio) on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - 12:07 pm:

Spring is on the way I saw my first robin today so things are looking up except we are supposed to have snow or sleet for tomorrow but hopefuly this will be the end of it but we have all of March left and we have had nasty weather in March.

Wow is this ever a breath taking pic...am gonna have to make a copy of it, and put it on my bulletin board in my office :) Will keep me motivated to get my work done, so I can be home in da UP by the end of the year :)

I love the blues in the photo & I am not tired of the snow. Since 1955 I think this has been the mildest winter I have experience. I loved the snow and XC skiing beginning in November and ending in late April--with very little re-waxing of the skis.
Now it seems I'm re-waxing every week between 15 above and 40 above. Send me a blizzard! I'd rather blow than mow.

I think a beautiful picture is a beautiful picture, reguardless what season it was taken...and this is a beautiful picture today!

By Just me (Jaby) on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - 05:31 pm:

The picture of the day today is just spectacular!Winter may be long and cold but it is a season of great photo opportunities with all the beauty around us.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - 07:22 pm:

Well Musicteacher, I suppose if your sick of the snow, you always could move out of the Keweenaw to a warmer climate!! ;-)

I used to live in Calumet, and personally, I didn't mind the snow one bit. I would gladly give up 95° and 95% humidity in the summer for a few months of snow just to return home....

By Daveofmohawk (Daveofmohawk) on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - 09:13 pm:

Capt. Paul: It's more than just a few months; we had our first major snowstorm of the season in early Oct.; that was over 5-months ago. I don't mind snow either but by this time of year it does get old; just like 95 degrees and 95 percent humidity. The last few summers we've had our share of 80's and 90's also and even hit 100 a couple of times.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - 11:10 pm:

Musicteacher, I saw a picture in tonight's Daily Mining Gazette of a couple of frat members lounging in chairs in front of their frat house in Houghton in sun glasses yesterday, basking in the sun. One of the guys was wearing shorts & sandals. There was snow underneath their lounge chairs. The article did mention that there is supposed to be more snow tomorrow, but it was a start. :-)
