The Pasty Cam caught a different perspective of Mont Ripley eight years ago. Ripley got a slow start on the ski season, like the rest of us got a slow start on winter, but those snow guns went great guns in January and they will be skiing until April. With weather like this, just a few years ago (pre-snowmaking), the hill probably wouldn't have opened at all.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 08:23 am:

Good Morning!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 08:24 am:

Mornin from MN, where it looks like we get to be blizzard central this weekend. I'll believe it when I see it!!!!
Mr. Deb

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 08:25 am:

I really like that picture of Mount Ripley. That is taken from an angle that I have never seen before.

By Janet Boatman (Janetnwohio) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 08:28 am:

Good Morning, Deb Ohio is supposed to get rain and ice from probably the same storm I would rather get snow than the ice. Everybody have a great weekend.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 08:45 am:

Well, it looks like we may pay some for our nice weather this week, too. We have a possible major winter storm here in the Middle of the Mitten predicted on Sunday, with major snow accumulations, plus more possible snow accumulation Sunday night, continuing into Monday. I'm not complaining, as long as it is snow & not ice, & not deep freeze temps. Maybe a snow day is in the cards for my sons on Monday? Since our schools stayed open during the deep freeze conditions, we have the snow days to play with.

Joanie--Joey will be able to wear his boots some more, it sounds like, this weekend.

SUOMI and champions

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 08:57 am:

I'm gonna get a miniature musher sled, hook Joey up, put his boots on and away we go. Maybe I'll get a couple more "Joeys" make a team out of them and call them Wuskies!

By Jacobsville (Barb) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 09:13 am:

Good morning everyone! It's trying to snow here in beautiful
downtown Jacobsville, but it's not doing a very good job of it at
all! But it is cold, at 6 degrees above.

Since this is Pasty.com, I thought the following would be most
appropriate!

This photo is from http://www.cornwallcam.co.uk/
a website originally given to us from our friend Japei.
I couldn’t resist putting the photo up here too :o)

I apologize for the quality of the photo. Let's try it again...

Hummm, I think I will take a spicy chicken and mushroom please!

By FJL (Langoman) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 09:48 am:

Better hook another big dog up with joey to pull that heavy load........:)

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 09:57 am:

....and heavy load it is, my belly is growing just looking at the Steak Empanada!!!

By Danbury (Danbury) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 11:00 am:

How about the Lamb & Mint? I had the opportunity to try Mint sauce once, as well as Lamb & Mint chips.
Any comment that to my taste buds would be appropriate would be even less becoming.
Best to quote Obelix (although he was referring to pork): "Yes, but boiled, and in Mint Sauce! Asterix, the poor pig!"

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 12:33 pm:

Empanadas from Cornwall? Who knew?
That sounds about as unlikely as Oggies from Buenos Aires!

By Carole (Carole) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 12:45 pm:

I go onto the Cornwall website everyday. Great pictures, beautiful country.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 01:01 pm:

Hello all, cooled off a bit didn't it? Why do my customers have me do field checks when it is this cold out? genetically I should be able to handle this but tell my body that.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 02:08 pm:

What the heck is an "Oggie"? It sounds like a dance, oh wait, I was thinkin' of Boggie. sigh

What do you have to check, Brooke, maybe I should ask what you do, if that is appropriate???
So do you go out in the field and say, check?

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 02:12 pm:

Joanie, I had to measure doors. All outside ones today.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 02:18 pm:

I think that Brooke is talking about having to be outside in the cold, in general?

It has been cold here, a little bit north of Brooke, too. I went to a meeting last night. I had long underwear on, a wool turtleneck blouse, and a zippered sweatshirt (this is INSIDE) the building. I had to zip up my sweatshirt, & I was about ready to have to put my coat on, as I was still cold, inside. Hmm...When I get that cold, it takes me a couple of hours to warm up. Maybe that's where the Three Dog Night came from?

This time of the year is not easy to dress, especially if we have several places to go. Most places are cold, so I wear long underwear to keep warm. But, the local yarn shop is hot, without longjohns. A happy medium would be great!

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 02:37 pm:

"Three Dog Night" is a band famous for the song "One Is The Loneliest Number", but what does "Three Dog Night" really mean?? I never did get it.

By Gary W. Long (Gary_in_co) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 02:46 pm:

Three Dog Night was an Australian band. The term refers to how cold a night it is in the outback. A three dog night would be one that required three dogs to stay warm, i.e. a very cold one.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 03:08 pm:

Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie):
"What the heck is an "Oggie"?"

Oggy is the Cornish term for the pasty (pl.= Oggies).

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 03:14 pm:

Thanks, Gary. That was exactly what I was referring to: the play on words, with the band's name, & needing 3 dogs to stay warm! :-) The problem is that we only have two dogs.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 03:15 pm:

So an Oggie isn't a Hoagie?

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 04:24 pm:

Frnash, that's kinda "corny". Geez, Oggies, Hoagies, Doggies, this site is gettin' kinda strange.

By Greta Armata (Gretania) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 07:10 pm:

I check out the Cornwall site every day as well. It always makes me smile to see the beautiful spring flowers and the lush greenery of the gardens during our "down times" here. Mr Winpenny takes spectacular pictures. I've corresponded with him several times and he is quite the gentleman.

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Friday, February 23, 2007 - 07:56 pm:

Hey DEB S.....did you get my email?
wasn't sure of your email address..lost it somehow

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, February 25, 2007 - 02:04 pm:

David, no I didn't. I'll send you my e-mail address or you could just look at my profile.
