Lake Linden was buzzing with the sound of Mini-Baja vehicles this past Saturday as the Michigan Tech Winter Baja Competition was held at the park. Teams from all over the U.S. came to compete with their off-road vehicles, testing them in the winter conditions on a specially designed course of snowy twists, turns, bumps and hills for Big Air jumps. These are some photos of the action that took place, including a snow-busting close-up and even a shot of one of the vehicles getting a little air!

Stay tuned for Thursday's Pasty Cam, where we'll feature some photos from the recent UP 200 Sled Dog Race in Marquette.

Now that looks like fun!!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 - 08:13 am:

Thank you for the pictures, Mary! I talked to my son this weekend. He said he watched the competition for awhile. He tried to describe the vehicles to me. I was trying to picture what they were, and now I know what they look like. He said it was a lot of fun to watch them.

And, I look forward to pictures of the Sled Dog race. I understand that it had an exceptionally noisy start, which delighted a number of people.

That does look like fun Joanie, even more so that its not too cold anymore.

On Sunday a message metioned the movie "Slap Shot". The Carlson Brothers did most of the Hocky fighting in the movie. Did you know that the Carlson Brothers played hocky for the Marquett Iron Rangers?

I received an E mail from a person in Spain yesterday asking a question regarding the Arcadian Copper Mine Tours. He is doing research for a PhD. I asked how he connected me with the mine and how he found me. His response was that he saw a posting of mine on Pasty.com from June of 2004. Amazing!!! Got to love the internet and Pasty.com

Thanks for the video, jAPEi. I loved hearing the spoken Finnish.

"Busting" through...busting is another of those words like pank. Busting and busted have not always been accepted as verbs. A bust was defined as a woman's bosom or a sculpture of a person from the torso or shoulders up.

OK, this is really cool looking.

Very Neat Pics Mary! Cool shot of air borne vehicle - real racing shot! Even with the suspension, I am sure drivers get slammed around really good. Looks like alot of fun!!

I once saw a documentary on the Great Lakes; one segment showed people racing cars (old beaters) on the ice, off one of the Apostle islands. Unlike NASCAR, a bump would send you sliding gently off the track and out a bit further into the lake. Sorta like a cross between NASCAR & curling. ;>)

Nice to see MTU take first with one of the entries-- Interesting to see that more than one vehicle from each school is allowed. It must be a costly event, but it sure takes the doldrums from the rigors of studies at a school like MTU. When I was a student there being in the Civil program the concrete canoe competition was my favorite thing. It never ceases to amaze me the technology involved in concrete-- and how it can be made to float--

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 - 09:25 pm:

I think that MTU's first place was unofficial. They could not officially compete in the contet since they were hosting it, according to what I have read.

At least they know they were the best there is in that one category, even though it could not count. :-)

oh darn, well yes Marianne, you're right, at least they know they're the best!!
