Joyce Tormala doesn't live that many miles from where I call home, but when looking through her Guest Gallery, I always manage to find a picture of a spot I've never been to. Today's location is Weber Lake, looking all quiet and peaceful. I can't give you directions to find this beauty yourself, all I know for sure is that it's not too far from Toivola. Hopefully Joyce (or someone else in the know) can be a bit more specific as to its whereabouts. In the meantime, look closely at the photo. You can see what I think is called a "sun dog", which is defined as: "A colored luminous spot produced by refraction of light by ice crystals that appear on either side of the sun". Looks like a streak of rainbow!

P.S. - Happy Valentines Day!!

Goodmorning--Happy Valentines Day! Pretty picture- looks so peacefull. We actually have that much snow in northwest Ohio today. I will just pretend I am in the UP all day.

Very serene looking picture. I've never heard of Weber Lake. Would love to know where it is also.

There is a Weber Lake on Wolverine Rd between Petoskey and Wolverine in the lower. It is a small round kettle lake tucked into the trees. If this photo is in the UP our lake has a doppleganger.

That picture deserves to be on a calendar. I really like the softness. Gonna steal it for my "desktop background". Happy Valentines Day!

It sure does belong on a calendar. I could live in a spot like that.

Happy Valentines day from snowy OHIO. We got blasted with a good old fashioned winter storm---just like the Copper Country. Even got to put on my "bootjack" clothes to go out and shovel the driveway----4 times!!!!!! It was a real mess here---even Ohio State is closed today. Wish I had my "scoop"--it would have made clearing the snow easier. The entire city of Columbus is CLOSED today.

You have done it again Joyce........another rare picture......I have never heard of a "sundog" before but it is cool!!!! It always amazes me that God provides us with such beautiful things to behold......and Joyce you seem to capture so much of it in pictures along with so many of you who send pictures in......I love it all thanks so much.

PS. How are those solider boys of yours doing Joyce ????

Good morning Mr Blue eyes....

That is a beautiful picture of a quiet, peaceful place that does not even have any tracks on it!

I didn't know that you could buy a whole lake in Michigan! So it is totally surrounded by private property? That's too bad. I was under the impression that all lakes, etc, in Michigan had to have at least some public access?

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!

Gorgeous!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - 01:32 pm:

That is so peaceful, very pretty. Hard to find a lake without an ice shanty or snomobile marks on it.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - 02:20 pm:

Hey, I wanted to buy that lake! Sigh, wish I could afford my own private lake.

As a youngster growing up in the U.P., my father told me sun dogs signified a change of weather was in order. Even then, I thought to myself, "Hrumph! That's a safe statement to make!"

By Julie Beck (Jstevensbeck) on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 - 08:11 pm:

Nice picture. My husband's Uncle Lyle Weber (his mother's sister, Alice Poisson was married to Lyle Weber)and his wife owned Weber Lake. Lyle worked in the Welfare office in Hancock. He had a camp on the lake and owned about 100 acres and the lake.
