It definitely was delayed in coming here in the Upper Peninsula this winter, but the snow is piling up quickly now. I noticed just over the last few days, that we now have snowbanks on the side of the road. If you want to get the full effect of the beauty of the snow-covering, then your best bet is to do like Roger Kangas did, and get out on foot and make your own tracks through the untouched snow! I'd suggest strapping on a pair of snowshoes or cross country skis though!

Geez, I thought we got a lot with our 2" yesterday! That's the most we've gotten at one time all year. It's a balmy -15 this morning. Would rather have the snow.

Beautiful shot Roger!

Morning! Yes winter has definitely arrived. I just tallied my NWS snow measurements for Painesdale, and we have received over 31 inches in the first 7 days of February alone. Making up for lost time I guess. We can't be too far the YTD snowfall from last year. I will check that when I get home.

Nice picture, that's what it, (finally), looks like here in Illinois. The snow sure adds sparkle to a dull and drab landscape. We even have the UP powder and that's the perfect snow.

I'm with you Mary, snowshoes, boots, big coat, hat and mitts. But oooooo, doesn't it remind you of days gone by.

We got 4 inches of snow overnight and the city was SHUT DOWN!!! Nobody here knows how to drive in winter weather---its crazy. This would be just a dusting for the Copper Country!! They make such a big deal over several inches of snow. Would rather be in Bootjack than Columbus, Ohio--4 months and counting!!

I love a fresh coating of snow (as long as its not on the road) That is a beautiful picture, makes you want to take a walk in the woods.

That is a beautiful picture, with the heavy coating of snow on the tree branches. And, if you look closely at the branches, you can see buds, letting us know that spring will be coming, one of these days.

Brooke, if ya wanna cross-country ski (which I do) ya gotta put up with snow on the road. At least for the initial laying of the base; then the road commission can clean things up for the drivers.
There was enough, barely, in Jackson last weekend when I visited my mom. Yes I went out; it was around 12 degrees F, not bad if you stayed out of the wind on trails through the woods. There's not enough here in Ann Arbor.

When I was a student at Suomi many years ago a friend and I went to ski at Ripley. The tow began to run and the Tech ski coach asked who we were. We were walking up the hill and skiing down you see. When he found that we were Suomi students he said we could use the tow anytime they were out practicing. We thought that was darn nice of him. Back then they only had tow ropes; not chair lifts as today.

Kathryn, I wanted to go out on the lakeland trail this weekend to walk but vetoed it. I live about three blocks from the Pinckney entrance to that so it makes a nice hike. If you cross country ski you should try it. The other entrance is in Stockbridge and would be a nice trip from Jackson if you go up M-106. We walk a ways and turn around when we felt we went too far. Good for Bikes too.
