In Dickinson County you can find many snowy adventures to record with your camera. Today's Pasty Cam is a capture by one shutterbug (Debra McCumber), of another "unsuspecting" picture taker in the snow. And no wonder the second photographer didn't realize he was the subject in Debra's lens. Just one look at the second photo gives ample reason to be oblivious to everything else surrounding you. These shots were taken at what Debra calls, "4th Pier" and I'm assuming is in the Piers Gorge area near Iron Mountain.

I love the pictures, with the big snowflakes coming down!

Stunning yet fascinating geology in the area around Piers Gorge. It's an area that at one time was large mountains (The Penokeans) and now is just a rocky, hilly terrain. Absolutely wonderful area to explore....

Both of these pictures are outstanding. Wish I could be where the action is like these guys are, well, except I don't like the snow. I do like these big flakes though. Maybe I don't like the snow anymore because we live out here where the snow is scarce and all it does it make it colder. You really can't appreciate the snow out here like you can in the UP. Perhaps if I lived where the real snow came, I'd actually like it again. But I just wish it didn't last so long UP there.

Brrrrr....just looking at that water makes me shiver. It is beautiful, but I'm happy enough to see it through a photographer's lens.

Cap'n Paul, where is this Piers Gorge area? Does it look like a neat place to explore (when it gets a lot warmer than we are expecting this weekend). On an unrelated matter, we were still having oreboats come into Esky yesterday. This late! On WLUC- TV last night I saw an ice fisherman who had to move up the bay to get out of the way of that oreboat. (I bet some guys in their fish shanties were surprised when they came out and saw the track of open water thru the ice left by that boat.)

Charles in Esky, Piers Gorge is in Norway, just about a 45 minute drive from Escanaba. It's worth a day trip! You could also take a whitewater rafting trip through the gorge during the spring or summer months!..... Nice work on the pics Deb!

Thanks for the great pictures. Think my family will take a day trip there on our Cedarville vacation this summer. We are envious here in the farmlands of flat Ohio. Sandra

Piers Gorge is on the Menominee River. From the north take hiway 8 out of Norway and the right turn just before the river, there is a sign. From the south, US 41 to 8 take 8 to the north side of the river and take the left turn.

I highly recommend a visit to the gorge! One of the standards to visit with our "out of town" (read: state or country) guests.

Well, thanks to this site, I have found numerous places to explore this summer. The best part is, I got first-hand info from all of you Pasty Cammers. Thank you!

I couldn't have said it better myself, Hilarie!!
I've been in meetings all morning, specifically, defensive driving..... joy!! I'd much rather be standing at that spot in the pictures than having to attend another boring meeting. And what luck..... I have another one in 15 minutes :(

Another beautiful place to visit is Kitch-iti-Kipi near Manistique. I was there last August and the view of the monstrous size trout at the bottom of the crystal clear spring-fed pond is spectacular. It is actually a State Park, so it will require a sticker, but well worth the price.
