That's the view coming into Dollar Bay from the south. The sign is actually an inset -- what you are looking at, I believe, is Horner Flooring, maker of hardwood flooring and well-known for providing the floor used in the NBA All-Star games and the NCAA championships.

Finally some snow---with another 3-5" expected today. It was like a postcard on the cross country trails yesterday, with that light lake effect snow gently floating to the ground.

Snow and a bit windy here in GB. Probably get 3 or 4 inche before it is over.
The ski flying hill near Bessemer is still there. I talked tof a guy from Topaz last week and he told me it is too windy to safely fly the long distances. I don't know if that is the real scoop or not.
Anyone know where Topaz is locate??

Morning. We got about 2 inches of snow on top of the inch of freezing rain here in beautiful Marengo, Il. last night.

Topaz is a little town on M-28 in the western U.P. Don't blink or you will miss it! :)

All our trees are covered in ice, very pretty. Luckily roads not as bad as expected.

Here is Alexis IL we are still getting more ice and sleet so I would love the snow and I am not a snow person. I assume that makes me a Summer UP wanna be - not a true snow loving UP wanna be

Over the top of the U is where i grew up.To the left of the sign is a trail we called Bush Trail,a small path the melting snow took,what a ride down on a sled that was!Could talk alot more about that,but must get going to the Chiropractor for my weekly adjustment from all the stupid stunts i did when i was much younger.We get to old soon and to smart late.

I don't remember ever seeing him post in any of the forums. Apparently he was a bit upset regarding the information I posted concerning global warming last week. Carrying around that much anger is not healthy. I certainly hope he gets over it.

Sorry to hear about this, David. I've received a very few mails like that years ago, but nowadays, should there be any, they disappear in my spam filter.

Our kids have a snow day here in mid-Michigan. We have about 6" of snow so far today. Old man winter came back.

Some are saying that we may pay for the warm weather that we had in December with a very cold and possibly snowy last half of winter. (Check out AccuWeather, article on Winter Returns with a Vengeance.)

It is just too bad that reasonable people can't have a reasonable discussion about a topic as important as the world we live in. There seems to be an awful lot of "I'm right and you're wrong" and "If you don't do as I say, I will destroy you" in the world. I wonder why that is... and what does that say about the world we are creating?

David C Cloutier (Dccloutier) I am sorry there are people out there like that in the world. He has no right to do that to you. I agree with you Joanie (gonnabeayooper) there are alot of sickos out there in this world. Why can't everyone just read it and let it go at that? Its not a debate of any kind that is for sure. Just putting facts of what they think is right. Not out to hurt anyone.

David, I was not interested in your postings nor of the others who may not agree with you. I just was not interested in the particular subject so I just overlooked them and went on to the next posting.I however agree that you have the right to expound on any theory you may have, and I will try my best to defend your right to express your opinions. There seems to be certain people who if you don't agree with them will do whatever they can to stop you from being able to post here. I was a target at one time so I know how you feel.

David, Sadly some people believe free speach only applies to themselves. Luckily just because they speak doesn't mean we have to listen (for the disrespectful ones anyhow.) I read your posts and they were not at all offensive and the different opinions were interesting to take in. There are so many factors as to what makes our world the way it is.

I hit post before I was finished, old age I guess. When there is a post that doesn't interest me I just skip on down to the next one. We all don't have to agree or disagree with all the post.

I say to all of you keep up your flow of information. We all are adult enough to be able to ignore that which we do not agree with. Or, respond but in a civilized manner.

I appreciate all of your comments. Mike, that is how it should be. If you aren't interested in something then just skip it. The bottom line is, the free exchange of ideas is necessary in order for a democracy to work. If we start to restrict what people can say, we are in big trouble!

I think that debate is a healthy thing for all of us. I always seem to learn something from a good debate. Of course we have to respect one anothers opinions and not get sarcastic.

Not to change the subject, and a very good one, I might add, but, IT'S SNOWING IN ILLINOIS! It's only flurries but at least drab, gray and ugly is turning to a beautiful pure, clean, white!

We have about 6 inches of clean white snow here in mid-Michigan. The kids love it, not only to sled & play in, but as a way to make spending money, by snowblowing and shoveling neighbors' driveways & sidewalks. :-)

Also, the high school kids had their first day of final exams canceled today because of the snow day, so most of them are very happy about that. :-)

The mom was Betty (she died of cancer) There were four kids: Mark, Keith, Kevin, and (I can't remember the youngest)... must be my old age...

Even Pres. Bush seems to have admitted to global warming. There was something in the news last night about his gvt. getting ready to register polar bears as endangered because global warming was reducing the amount of pack ice in the Arctic.

What a great country this is. Everyone has an opinion, and right or wrong they can express it.........

David, I was very interested in what you had to say about global warming. I read every e-mail that everybody wrote and weighed them all. When I don't enjoy the conversation of the day, I skip to the ones that I do enjoy or that I am interested in. Like Mikie, I've been a target also. People who don't like what you have to say because you don't agree with them. It's ridiculous and we're not in grade school any more. We're adults with our own minds and it's not like if we read your comment we're going to agree with it until we read the next one. That's kid stuff and this guy needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Continue with what you enjoy. If I don't like what you're saying, I'll skip you.

All from the Hancock area. Now Mark has lost his wife, Cindy, to liver cancer. Keith passed away some years ago---very young. 37 or so at most.
Did you live very close to their house? Seems there was a park not far away.

I continue to applaud the editors for giving us this site and keeping it "family friendly." Good debate, as others have said, is healthy.

Yes, Hoffman Street. We lived in the second house north of your brother's family (at 1206 Hoffman) until early 1967 when we moved to Clawson. When we lived there, Betty was my mom's (Alice) best friend. They were a really nice family! I am sorry to hear that Keith died and that Mark lost his wife. Mark was several years older than me (I'm 49 now). He was sort of a hero to me. I always thought he was really cool! The park (Lincoln park) was two doors south of thier house. A retired fireman (Mr. Shoemaker I think) lived between your brother's family and park.

Well, I'm back from Lower Michigan. Just in time to deal with the huge ice storm they are predicting in Houston the next couple days..... global warming my %$#&!!, ;-)

Seriously though, this is a forum, and a very good one at that. Everyone should have the right to post their opinion, no matter how ridiculous it might be. My only concern is when it gets mean spririted and personal. This should be a fun place to come, not a "hotbed" of attacks!!! I can commiserate with David C.; I've posted several items on here and have gotten some really scathing emails in return.

Well, here's my 2 cents..........the earth has been going through warming and cooling cycles from day one. No need to get into a twist; we have another ice age coming in a few thousand years if we don't disagree each other to death.
