The Pasty Cam caught the rising of the statues at Michigan Tech's Winter Carnival eight years ago. Tech students return next Monday and we're going to need a whole lot more snow for statue building to commence.

Good morning! Sure hope you get a "ton" of snow for Winter Carnival. Is there anywhere else up there where you can "import" more snow?

By Danbury (Danbury) on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 - 08:06 am:

Maybe import it from Saskatchewan - I think I saw some on a webcam there.
Colorado aside, the whole northern hemisphere is warmer than usual, and has way less snow.

Someone posted the link on this page last week to:

Select Forecast Graphic. Go down to the last graphic. Major snow is predicted in the January 14 to 16 timeframe. A few more of these, and the snow will catch up.

As the mom of a Mich Tech student, I'm happy that this snow event has been pushed out to January 14, from January 12, as I would rather that our students not be driving back to school in a big snow storm. After all of the kids are back up there, it can snow to its heart's content.

Top 'o the mornin' to all. Beautiful sunny day (darn). No snow here either. At least it's chilly for today. Kathy, where in NW Il are you? Anywhere near Sterling or Dixon?

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 - 10:04 am:

Marianne, that was me with the link to JohnDee. I see that today he has the big snows for Iowa back to the dates of the 13th - 15th. Our snowmobiles are ready and waiting!

Boy is that wind howling here in Illinois, it kind of reminded me of a little story;
Two guys were standing inside a building of a local theme park. They were looking outside, and it was an extremely windy day. The area's custodian, the one who had the job of sweeping up debris, was a very small woman who didn't weigh much, and she was having a rough time trying to not be blown away.

One guy joked with the lady, telling her that she would have to put heavy rocks in her shoes when she went outside to work.

The lady looked up and replied, "You mean, now I weigh me down to sweep?"

How sad that everyone seems to turn to politics when the topic is about having a "peaceful easy feeling", did you all forget about the "sixties"?

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 - 06:51 pm:

I'm glad to see you turning back to your puns & jokes, Joanie! I really missed those. I read this site as a place away from the hussle & bussle, not to read political arguments. I can get those anytime I turn on the TV, especially to news programs! If I wanted political arguments, I would join a political forum. Our family runs the whole spectrum from left to right, & I just want to cover my ears & go away when the topic turns to politics.

Anyway, thank you, Joanie, for lightening it up!

Janie, where do you live in Iowa? My parents were both born & raised in northwest Iowa, and I still have relatives in northwest Iowa.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 - 07:47 pm:

Marianne, I am in the east-central part of Iowa, just outside of Cedar Rapids. How far out in northwest Iowa are your relatives? I have been out that way a few times. We got our Scottish Terriers from a lady in Forest City, near Mason City.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 - 08:16 pm:

Janie,
Most of my relatives live in Buena Vista county, near Storm Lake.

My cousin, who farms my small farm in BV county is into horses and Collies. His wife commutes to her job in Spencer, which can be a real challenge in the winter, with snow & ice, etc.

My dad graduated from what is now Iowa State University, and my mom graduated from Iowa State Teachers' College, which I believe is now the University of Northern Iowa.

One of my aunts used to live near Cedar Rapids. And, one of my cousins lives outside of Des Moines. And I just found out that our neighbor here in Midland, MI, went out to near Cedar Rapids for his mom's 100th birthday party last week.

(We have a Lhasa Apso that we bought from a breeder friend who shows in Texas. We also have a Havanese who is way too big to be in standard.)
