Eight year's ago, Jonathan Hopper captured a familiar sight in the Copper Country -- at least in most years. We continue the snow drought; although temperatures are dropping this week and there is a chance of snow each day. Dare we get out the ski wax?

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 07:16 am:

Good morning, still craving bologna!

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 07:19 am:

when was the last time there was no snow up there? I mean which year.
The temperatures have been warming for quite some time. A few years ago I made a business trip up there the week after winter carnival...the statues were all melted.

Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo)
I left a message for you on yesterday's "whats up" page.
Good morning everyone! We have a little snow here (in the thumb) this morning.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 08:20 am:

Elvis would have been 72 today.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 08:21 am:

Sandra, we like the whole area of Ontonagon. We've been checking out the MLS, (a bit too soon), and have found a couple of great deals. We want to live as close to Lake Superior as we can. Gotta have the "lake sounds". Wish we could afford to live on the lake!

By FJL (Langoman) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 08:59 am:

Good morning all..........

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 09:26 am:

Hey Capt. Paul, does this mean you turned 33?

By Tom Karjala (Tom) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 10:01 am:

Yesterday's comment regarding bologna----other mfg of that ring sausage------here in Wisconsin there are many producers of ring bologna. Unfortunately, we never find Vollwerth's around here.
What is the long term prediction for snow in the CC? Hopefully there will be enough for MTU's Winter Carnival.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 10:24 am:

It is finally snowing here in Berkley Michigan. I never liked Vollwerths hot dogs as a kid because of the mustard seeds. I find that Kowalski in Hamtramick makes excellent bologna and other meat products. Like Vollwerths they are a Michigan company and don't use scrap meat in there products. In some states they use the kind of stuff that Michigan has stopped using in their sausages. Or at least that is what I think. Just finished this post and the snow stopped and the sky is blue.

Here come dat dang plow again and i just scooped da driveway.Remember them plows would scare the poo-poo out of us as a kid?
Why do we park the car in a drive-way - then go drive on a park-way......It's going to be a brite-brite sunshiny day..good song by Jhonny Nash

Mikie:I loved what you said about Sis LaMothe, did you know Jeff too?

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 11:00 am:

If you are not married to a gal from the U.P. and live up there, do you what that gal's favorite type of wine would be this time of year?....

I WANT TO GO TO FLORIDA !!!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 11:05 am:

Sis grew up with my Dad and she was my sisters best friend I never knew Jeff, can't say enough good things about Sis though. She had Yooper class, if you know what I mean. She had a heart of gold.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 11:13 am:

Speaking of Vollwerth's, when I was a kid I used to make a sandwich with Vollwerth's liver sausage, Miracle Whip, cheese and pickles. Mmmm...it was the best! When I was back home this summer, I bought some liver sausage and made some sandwiches...brought back good memories. I'll have to try Koegel's liver sausage. Now I'm really hungry....We always had ground bologna with pickles sandwich spread too. Good eatin'! Yummmmm...I want one now.

By David S. (Yooperdfs) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 11:21 am:

Righto, Cindy. As a kid I remember making sandwiches with the Vollwerth's ring bologna. With crusty bread from Thurners, a little mustard and cheese, how could ya go wrong?

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 11:53 am:

David Hiltunen, you sure are spunky this sunny, Monday morning. That was funny!

Where's Cha-Cha? You're making bologna sandwiches, aren't you?

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 11:54 am:

JH (Thumbgardener) THANK YOU VERY MUCH, I APPRECIATE THE INFORMATION VERY MUCH. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 12:25 pm:

Happy to be in the U.P. Your welcome. I hope that the information on the web site is correct. You might want to call. I wonder how many of the products they carry.
Who would have ever thought that someone mentioning bologna yesterday would create so much conversation.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 12:57 pm:

Cindy, yummy, me too, on fresh crusty bread.

By paul (Pungvait) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 02:23 pm:

i'll take my ring bologna pickled - Vollwerth's is putting it in jars again - with a few pickled beets and some corn relish - gotta go fridge now -----

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 02:31 pm:

That snow plow reminds me of 4th of July at the South Range Parade a couple years ago. A family from South Carolina was near us, you should have seen the looks on their faces when they found out what that big orange truck was. Not too many places in the country where the plow blades are taller than a man.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 02:33 pm:

By Sandra H. (Wasayooper) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 09:58 pm:

Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie),
Isn't Lake Superior great? What about those awesome sunsets? Even if you don't get to live on the lake, anything near town gives you easy access to the lake anyway. My parents live out by the IGA (that has the great eggs) and it is less than two miles to the lake.

Sometimes we think about retiring there too. My parents keep asking if I want to live in their house when they pass on. I'm not sure. My brother kind of wants the house. Also, it is on M-38 where traffic noise is a problem. If I can't have it, I will probably live in or near town for the convenience. I especially like the south and east sides (near the Catholic church and high school). They are close to everything but far enough away from the highways and railroad tracks for some peace and quiet.

I hope you find your dream home.

By Sandra H. (Wasayooper) on Monday, January 8, 2007 - 10:05 pm:

Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo),
