If you're looking for a place to take your Sunday drive this week, look no further. Tanya Voldarski shares a shot of a good place to head for! It's Misery Bay and it looks like the ice has blown in, at least it was when Tanya was out there snapping photos. Lake Superior doesn't look quite as inviting when the shoreline is covered in ice, in fact it's looking rather chilling!

That's sure not what Misery Bay looked like when I was there for
the first time this past summer. I am anxious to see it in the other
seasons too, but no, Mary, I'm afraid that I can't take a Sunday
drive there.

Was waiting to see if it was going to freeze this year.

Another nice day to sit on the beach in your parka and swampers!
Mr. Deb

Now that looks more like Lake Superior in January....

60 days until the first day of Spring. Woo hoo!!

By Anna Roehrich (Updreamer) on Friday, January 19, 2007 - 08:38 am:

Not iviting? I think it's absolutely GORGEOUS!
I would love to be able to walk on that beach today. On the bright side, we did finally get a 1/2" dusting here in NJ last night...our first for the season!

By Anna Roehrich (Updreamer) on Friday, January 19, 2007 - 08:42 am:

Oops..that should have been "inviting" not "iviting". I hate typos, but it's not easy to type one handed with a 3-year old on your lap!

I'll pass on a swim today, but it is a beautiful picture.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, January 19, 2007 - 08:54 am:

It still looks beautiful!

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Friday, January 19, 2007 - 09:26 am:

I would generally pass on a swim ANY time of year in Lake Superior; however, when I was there this past August, it wasn't as cold as I remembered it.

Isn't Misery Bay known for it's sink holes, some almost 80 feet deep?

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, January 19, 2007 - 10:10 am:

The beauty of the cold water while swimming in Lake Superior is that after you get over the initial jolt from the cold you are immediately numb and it doesn't bother you any more. The first stages of hypothermia make it bearable. Of course with Superior this applies in summer or winter.

It's Friday, This is Colorado. And yet another snow storm is predicted for tonight... I know where all the snow is this year...

Beautiful pic :) I found a spot on Lake Michigan in Indiana here, that looks just like this area of Misery Bay in the winter. I have a picture of it hanging in my foyer :)

I'm with UPdreamer...what I wouldn't give to be able to take a nice long stroll on the shore of the Lake, even in the winter :)

By West Ely (West) on Friday, January 19, 2007 - 02:23 pm:

I fell through some ice there about 5 years ago. It was odd, because I thought I was still on the beach as there was a tree I was walking too. 20 below that day, so the water felt quite nice. Then my brain kicked back in. Was a cold walk back to the car too.

Parka swampers and....a thermos and pasty!! Just sit back and listen to nature. To many cars and noise here in Dayton, OH.

By Michele Maatta (Mrmaatta) on Friday, January 19, 2007 - 06:48 pm:

Hey, T,-- cruisin' out to Theresa's huh? LOL such an icy shot after the darn "warming" sauna pic yesterday-- brrrrrr

Reminds me of the pic on the Gaz today with the diver jumping in near the South entry to secure the cables to hoist the sunken fishing boat out-- bet that guy could have used a sauna after that dive!

By Michele Maatta (Mrmaatta) on Friday, January 19, 2007 - 06:52 pm:

Oh yeah, and if it's 60 days till spring it must be about 90 till the golf course opens. Last year I began golfing in Calumet on April 22 (the day the course opened) and got out another 4 times before month end!!! I can't wait to start up again.

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Friday, January 19, 2007 - 09:24 pm:

60 days till the first day of spring sounds awesome to me!! Can't wait then by July/August you can take a dip into Lake Superior .......the inland lakes for sure, as long as it warms up by then! You just never know about the great U.P.
