Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 07:04 am:

White fluff covering the trees here in the Keweenaw is always a pretty sight, but when you get below those branches, the twigs hiding under all that snow add another dimension. Checking things out with Brita Haapala, you can see those thin little branches supporting the weight of the snow that creates the beautiful scene in the distance of her second shot, too. Poor little lowly branches really don't get the credit they deserve for being a major part of the total picture. That is, until someone pulls on those branches to douse an unsuspecting person with the load they hold!

Those are great shots, Brita!

Brita, I forgot to add that I'm glad it's there and NOT here. LOL

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 07:27 am:

That is a very cool picture, Brita!

I hope the snow and ice hold off this weekend until all of our our Mich. Tech students get back safely back to school!

TGIF! Have a good weekend.

I am hoping too that my son and all the other Tech students get back safely. An 11-12 hour drive from South Dakota, where it has turned very cold in the last 24 hours.

Very Pretty.

By Dorothy Stewart (Bootjackbabe) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 09:37 am:

Another beautiful picture of God' Country.
Everything looks so clean and peaceful in this world of unrest.

By SD (Kathie) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 09:45 am:

Thanks for being my weather man!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 10:14 am:

Beautiful pics!! It sounds like it might look like that around here (Eastern Iowa) by Monday! A great weekend to all!

By stix (Stixoutwest) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 10:16 am:

Kathie, our son heads back to Tech on Saturday. He'll fly from Az. to Chicago and then drive up on Sunday. I just hope any major snow etc. holds off until after Monday, then it can snow like the dickens!

By Laura J. Rye (Jsrye) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 10:31 am:

Is there enough snow in Houghton for the Winter Carnival?

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 11:18 am:

I would like to compliment Mary Drew on her daily descriptions of the pictures. You sure have a great way with words.

Another beautiful shot!

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 11:44 am:

I agree, Joanie. Mary puts such a nice perspective on the beautiful photos.

By judie cole (Michigansnofall) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 11:48 am:

Greetings all, room for one more?

I have been lurking for ages, and decided to register and join in!

I just moved to Charleviox from the Detroit area 6 months ago. So now I am much closer to my beloved U.P!

Love, love, love the beautiful pics posted everyday, so many of them become my background for the day.

Have a great day everyone!

Laura J. Rye:

I really don't think so. I offered all my snow (Calumet) to
my sons fraternity if they wanted to haul it 10 miles
south. I think the statues will be redesigned quickly in
the next week.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 12:08 pm:

Welcome Judie, so glad you joined!

By Jeff Kalember (Jeffkal) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 04:34 pm:

hey ????? whats that white stuff on that branch?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 08:04 pm:

Welcome Judie! Nice of you to join in. If you want to talk about the UP, go to What's UP! There's usually a lot of chatter going on there. The pictures are great, aren't they? We live in MN but make 3 to 4 trips UP there every year.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 09:47 pm:

re: TGIF. 'Course we all know what that means, don't we? THANK GOD I'M FINNISH!! Heikken Päivää is getting closer. Unfortunately or maybe fortunatly, I had open heart surgery two weeks ago today, a triple by-pass. Doing very well, but won't make it to Heikken päivää this year.

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 09:58 pm:

Ken, I assume, rather than MiMi, good for you with the bypass. I'm sure you'll do well. I know you'll feel so much better when your back to your normal self. My hubby had it done in 1985 and again 1994. As of this week's angiogram his bypasses are looking very good. Good luck.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 10:16 pm:

Ken of Ken ja Mimi--
So that's why we haven't heard from you for a while.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

My dad had that surgery nearly five years ago and is going strong.
And I MEAN strong! Still climbing up on the cottage roof to make
repairs, chopping wood, picking berries, fishing--you get the drift,

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 10:30 pm:

Ken; Glad to hear your doing well,Best to take it easy for awhile.Best wishes to you and yours.
