White fluff covering the trees here in the Keweenaw is always a pretty sight, but when you get below those branches, the twigs hiding under all that snow add another dimension. Checking things out with Brita Haapala, you can see those thin little branches supporting the weight of the snow that creates the beautiful scene in the distance of her second shot, too. Poor little lowly branches really don't get the credit they deserve for being a major part of the total picture. That is, until someone pulls on those branches to douse an unsuspecting person with the load they hold!

I am hoping too that my son and all the other Tech students get back safely. An 11-12 hour drive from South Dakota, where it has turned very cold in the last 24 hours.

Kathie, our son heads back to Tech on Saturday. He'll fly from Az. to Chicago and then drive up on Sunday. I just hope any major snow etc. holds off until after Monday, then it can snow like the dickens!

Is there enough snow in Houghton for the Winter Carnival?

I would like to compliment Mary Drew on her daily descriptions of the pictures. You sure have a great way with words.
I really don't think so. I offered all my snow (Calumet) to my sons fraternity if they wanted to haul it 10 miles south. I think the statues will be redesigned quickly in the next week.

Welcome Judie! Nice of you to join in. If you want to talk about the UP, go to What's UP! There's usually a lot of chatter going on there. The pictures are great, aren't they? We live in MN but make 3 to 4 trips UP there every year.

re: TGIF. 'Course we all know what that means, don't we? THANK GOD I'M FINNISH!! Heikken Päivää is getting closer. Unfortunately or maybe fortunatly, I had open heart surgery two weeks ago today, a triple by-pass. Doing very well, but won't make it to Heikken päivää this year.

Ken, I assume, rather than MiMi, good for you with the bypass. I'm sure you'll do well. I know you'll feel so much better when your back to your normal self. My hubby had it done in 1985 and again 1994. As of this week's angiogram his bypasses are looking very good. Good luck.

Ken of Ken ja Mimi-- So that's why we haven't heard from you for a while. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
My dad had that surgery nearly five years ago and is going strong. And I MEAN strong! Still climbing up on the cottage roof to make repairs, chopping wood, picking berries, fishing--you get the drift,
