When you begin a New Year in the Keweenaw, the norm for ground cover is snow and ice. Not this January 1st though. Traveling around the area, you'll find different amounts of the white stuff, for the different elevations. Some having little snow on the ground and others having inches upon inches. This shot by Rebecca Frederick is a good representation of the conditions along the shores of Lake Superior in the upper regions of the Keweenaw. Unusual, that's for sure and unique too, that if you're brave enough, you could stick your toes in the sand on New Year's Day UP North!
Happy New Year!
