Thank you for posting the blast from the past link, it was awesome reading about the Mackinac bridge! This website is fantastic... from history to weather reports to inspiring photography and the link to home alone is the best! Nice photos on the cam page too... Wow!

Great shot of the Mackinac Bridge. Anyone know what the address is for the web cam on the Big Mac?

By Pasco Florida on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 09:53 am:

The Christmas trees are back up in the County Buildings in Pasco County Florida. They were put up, taken down, and up again. Folks are trying to stomp out the Christmas trees......

See yesterday's comments.

We're taught diversity and then they take it away. I respect others and I hope they can learn to respect us (Christians). Let's fight the terrorists not each other.

Careful out there.
WIth high winds, low visibility, and low temps, it's better for your family to still have YOU rather than that last gift you had to run out to get!
Stay inside and enjoy the beauty of the moment. Worry about the shoveling later!

Thanks Lori,

I've been sitting here looking at web cams drinking my coffee in cold Joliet, Il. We're suppose to get snow this weekend but it's sunny right now.

When I use to live in Eagle River I use to be able to see the storms come across the lake while I drank coffee. Wish I was still there.

I'm looking for someone who has made GRANDMA'S MISTAKE BARS before. I have a recipe and I made them, but I'm just not satisfied. The fudgie part is too moist. I want the bars to be more dry. So I'm not sure if there's a certain trick to them or if I just need a new recipe! Does anybody know what to do? thanks.

By trish, wa on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 12:57 pm:

Tina, now there's an idea... how about a separate area like
the Ancestors one just for favorite pasty.com yooper
recipes? Charlie?

Whew! Looks a little snowy at the bridge and off Sharon's patio. Any planes landing at the airport--looks a little chilly to me. Love the bridge pics and thanks for the sites.

Need some advice:
We were planning to drive from Saginaw to the Keweenaw on Dec. 23 and return back to Sag. on Dec. 26. Considering John Dee's forecasts for the entire area, do you think driving would be stupid or too dangerous - across the UP especially? We'll be in a Cavalier, not a 4WD. I have never driven those roads across the UP during a major snowstorm.

By Cathy, Norfolk, VA on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 03:17 pm:

Well, I guess I really will have a White Christmas when I get home next week. As long as I can fly in and out of Houghton Airport I don't care. My kids are looking forward to all the snow. Here in VA they are talking about us getting some snow on Sunday night. Hope not everything closes when we get a dusting of snow.

By ruth, mi on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 03:52 pm:

try putting the batter in a 9x13 pan if the recipe calls for a 9x9, or if it is for a 9x13, try a jelly roll pan, sort of a cookie sheet with sides. That should dry the bars out, but they'll cook a few minutes faster as well.

Listen to me giving advice, when my saffron buns didn't rise and look like horse apples!

By TB,CO..enjoy on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 04:16 pm:

Said in a whiney voice..."I want a storm...why can't I get a real blizzard"...Here in CO we just get light snowfalls (though they call them storms)...ya, sure...every couple of years we do get more but usually not enough to satisfy...of course I don't have to shovel or clean off the Dish!!

By Dave, Laurium on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 07:18 pm:

julwisc... Seriously, at this time of the year, driving across the UP is like rolling the dice. You can have good weather in one spot, and a squall or whiteout conditions 10m or 20 miles down the road, especially on the stretch form the Newberry area to Marquette. They get some fairly serious lake effect snow there too. For that short a visit and if i had the cash, I would fly up, but if you do decide to drive, especially in a cavalier, although the front wheel drive is a plus, make SURE you have yourself a winter survival kit of some sort in your vehicle, and don't rely on cell phones in the UP, there are a lot of dead spots in the middle of the UP. Good Luck whatever you decide.....

Pasco, Florida, seems to me the time is coming when the majority will not tolerate Christian ideals, or morality any more because we won't measure up to their standards of tolerance. Don't we have to draw a line somewhere and stick by it?

Tina:
This version of the recipe calls for a 9 X 13 pan also. They look so wonderful I may have to make me a batch ! I love the idea of a recipe page too. We ALL love copper country foods.

GRANDMA'S MISTAKE BARS

2 sticks butter
1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. brown sugar
2 c. oatmeal
1/4 tsp. baking soda
Mix all together making a crumb mixture. Put 3/4 of mixture into a greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Reserve the rest for the top. Melt 1 stick butter with 12 ounce package of chocolate chips. Add 1 can sweetened condensed milk, mix together while hot. Pour on top of crumb mixture in pan. Sprinkle rest of crumb mixture over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool before cutting.
