Barb Nelson provides today's Shoebox Memory with a clever card (early 1900's?) and a glimpse of Christmas morning, probably sometime in the '60's. Hadn't thought about aluminum trees in years...

Apologies for a late start this morning. We are having some technical difficulties with the Guest Gallery, and hope to have it back in operation later today.

Thanks for all of the Christmas greetings on yesterday's Pasty Cam. So good to hear from folks all over the country (and the world) who share a common connection to the people, places, and history of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Have a good week!

Oh my goodness! I believe that shot was in 1961 or 62. Ah, I
remember the angel blouse and full circle skirt well. And my
sisters and I all hated that aluminum tree! We wanted the scent
of pine in the house. But Mom hated the pine needles.

Thanks for using my pictures!

I love the style of writing on that card, thanks Barb! Does anyone know what font would be close to that? Barb, love those cat-eye glasses!!! My sisters Ginny and Mary Ella had some just like that, and I had the most fun teasing them when we'd look through old photos! I always say, we only tease the ones we love!

My Mom still has the aluminum tree from my Grandmother original box and all. The only thing that is not working is the multi color light that used to shine on it.

Great card, wish they would go back to selling them, yes, aluminum trees are making a comeback, they are collectors items, check garage sales....Stay warm UP there.

We all enjoyed these trees in the 60's and now there is a museum in N.Carolina to preserve these memories. http://www.prweb.com/releases/2004/12/prwebxml185521.php

NPR did a piece on aluminum trees and the town in WI that started it all. They are worth bucks if you have the original box etc. Just saw my long lost nieces and nephews and found they went from 4 to 22 in a hurry and are all grand young adults.
Time marches on............Angelflight tomorrow
