On opposite ends of the Keweenaw Peninsula you'll find two quaint churches, which actually mirror each other in architecture. On the southern end you'll find the Nisula Lutheran Church, backlit and snapped by Z-Man, showing off it's country charm amidst the snow and glow of the morning sun. Heading north to Phoenix, we come across the Church of the Assumption, which has become part of the Keweenaw County Historical Society and has been restored to the way it appeared when folks from another century worshipped there. David Antikainen captured a peaceful shot with a small creek winding it's way around the grounds. Wishing you peace on this Christmas Eve!

Z-Man just sent a newborn picture (less than 24 hours old), showing 'da utter side' of St. Henry's Lutheran Church in Nisula, along with wishes for a Merry Christmas!
Happy Holidays to near and far. The Copper Country is beautiful this morning with over 30 inches of snow on the ground. This morning the Keweenaw is getting a "fair amount of the white stuff". We love it. Merry Christmas.

Merry Chistmas to all up there in Nisula. It was a Joy to see the picture of the Church on Pasty.com.
I have fond memories of the Church, especially of the Christmas Eve services which were held there in the early 1950's.

As a somewhat new Yooper who moved to Sedar Bay from Royal Oak, MI, the end of March 2004, I marvel that people go out and enjoy life despite extreme cold and everyday snow. Christmas Eve as we were returning home from a get-together at my sister's home in Bootjack, the temperature on the car thermometer fluctuated from as low as -30° to a balmy -6°on arrival here in Sedar Bay. I haven't experienced such cold since my winter at Suomi College umpteen years ago. Fortunately I received (from Yooper family) several pairs of wool socks and some warm mittens for Christmas.
Christmas blessings to all our troops and their families, wherever they are. Our prayers go also to Beverly's relative who is a hostage in Iraq. May the New Year bring peace and stability in the region so that our heroic soldiers can return home to family and loved ones as soon as possible.
