If you look closely at the snow-covered tractor, you can just make out the famous Deere symbol and John's name printed below it. Who'd have thought that a tractor and cat (or whatever it is!) could make such a picturesque view. Lois Haglund did, that's who! I like the settin' stool off to the left. Guess that's the supervisor's perch! Thought I'd throw in a bonus shot from Lois, who hails from the Crystal Falls area, the second photo being Lind Road. It's a view many of us will be seeing in the next few days, as we travel to be with family for the Holidays - - a snowy highway up ahead!

Good Morning!

Good morning from cool Ohio. We have patches of snow with lots of green grass yet.
Great photos !

GOOD Morning from Cordova,TN:

A little chill this morning but the sky is blue and a warm sun now peeping up--- Should be 55 today, but a bit of Michigan Sunday and Monday with lows predicted in the teens...

We may see some of that snow in January if the weather predictors are correct--Oh my God, please don't let that happen--the drivers in the south are crazy in dry weather-- They would never handle road conditions the way we grew up in.... Six days to Christmas--- Have a Happy Holiday Season....

By Yooper in Cadillac, MI on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 09:29 am:

Hey Leslie at Northern Lights Lodge, what is your location in Cadillac? Are you a fellow Yooper?

By Karen.... on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 09:57 am:

I love that tractor! Yep, we saw a few of them while visiting the UP in August. Too bad they don't offer rides on them for the City folk to enjoy.

Merry Christmas to all......love the snow from afar.

By flyinlatertoday on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 10:16 am:

Now there is a "tractor" thought. Open a small working farm in Dreamland and let the city folks help drive the tractor or "whatever" in exchange for a few bucks. (quite a few probably) I may find a way to make a living "up North" after all. Of course it would be seasonal...on a Tuesday.....

Good morning my fellow yoopers suppose to be a sunny day in the northwest, good day to finish my shopping

By Lowell MO. on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 11:46 am:

Well we have a balmy 38 at this time in Missouri. Its supposed to get to a high of 42. Nice day so far but supposed to get colder today later on.
The Picture of the road reminds me of the roads around where I lived and grew up in central U.P.
Also liked the picture of the tractor but would Like to see it in my backyard.

Lois ---- GREAT picture! If this doesn't capture the essence of the UP I don't know what would.
Thanks for sharing it.

By Jason, Knoxville TN on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 12:12 pm:

Wow, going to work for 230 this morning must have gotten to me...I looked for a minute for the big "Deere" in the picture, nothing thinking about a JOHN DEERE! Ha. Oh well, sure is a peaceful looking photo. Snow coming to Knoxville starting tonight so the rumor goes. I agree with the folks that posted previous to me that are in Tennessee now, people down here can't handle the snow. They speed up and go all out. Good time to stay home with a good book.

By Bruce ---Cordova on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 12:29 pm:

Jason-Knoxville-
At first I thought it was an illusion---about the driving--- but you learn real quick--turn signals are optional as well as headlights for many drivers-----
You have to be very alert at all times--Memphis has alot of rear ending--crazies follow to darn close---no room for error...When snow is predicted the stores get packed and they think it is the end of the world--buy everything from the shelves--then those that get out on the road have no clue... Oh well Yoopers grow up knowing how to handle the conditions, I guess we former Yoopers know of drivers from the North that may be from down here Take Care

Cool tractor pic!

By Janie, IA. on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 02:49 pm:

Back when I was a kid, after dad shut the tractors off for the day, he would put coffee cans over the exhaust pipe. My 4 brothers would start these tractors up to see which tractor would shoot the can off the highest. The John Deere did pretty well in the contest. Fun on the farm days back then!

By L-O-V-E Pastycam! on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 07:17 pm:

Love that tractor picture. Just needs a wreath hangin' on the headlight and 'ta-daaah'! It's a Yooper Christmas card!;)

Thanks Lois, for the tour of the Crystal area. You're on the other side of the county from where I grew up, in Iron River, m-a-n-y years ago. If you get a chance to get over that way, maybe you could get a picture of one of the landmarks over there? Regardless, thanks for the great album.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP on Saturday, December 18, 2004 - 11:24 pm:

That looks like an old Pettibone skidder behind the John Deere. I say 'old' because it looks like a cable operated boom, with a hydraulic clam. 'Eh? That would be OLD!

One last check of pasty cam for the night and no one's awake! Sleep tight little yoopers. :)
