Mornin' all.. Kind of chilly here in the harbor again today.

By Mr. Bill on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 10:49 am:

The 704' H. LEE WHITE anchored since about four AM in Bete Grise, is about ready to heave anchor (10:40 EST) and return her voyage to Silver (Bay or Harbor?), as per her Skipper to the USCG on CH22.

Conditions must be easing on the windward side of Gitchee Gumee.

Someone said there is an ore boat near Tech headed for the bridge. Should see it on the bridge cam within 15 minutes or so....

By nice view of boat on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 03:01 pm:

The Buckeye just went under the bridge. Didn't get to see it on the bridge cam though.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 03:11 pm:

The Bridge Cam just caught the tail end of her with the bridge still in the upright position!

By next one on the way... on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 03:15 pm:

Another ore boat headed toward the bridge. This one is still between Chassell and Tech so it'll be awhile.

By Lori... Commerce Twp on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 03:22 pm:

Ha! :) Mary, you beat me to it! I was just going to add the bridge cam photo... I caught it too.
I added a photo of the bridge one day last week, just because it was so cool... https://www.pasty.com/discus/messages/278/527.html?TuesdayNovember2320041037am

By Barb in Jacobsville, MI on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 03:24 pm:

At approximately 2:35 pm Tuesday, November 30, 2004 the
Joseph H. Frantz came through the lower end of the Keweenaw
Waterway heading upbound. In looking up the ship name on
the internet, it is an old ship that has been converted and last
season was used to carry stone and coal. We are presuming
that she is carrying road salt/gravel up to the Houghton area.
Joseph Frantz

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 03:31 pm:

So now, with the report of the Frantz making her way to the bridge, nobody will get any work done this afternoon, since we'll all be clicking on the Bridge Cam trying to catch it!
Uh, Charlie, not me though, I'll be diligently working! ;->

By Mrs. Bill on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 03:46 pm:

Lots of ore boat activity today in the Keweenaw! This is a picture of the H. Lee White in Bete Grise Bay at dawn this morning.

Question: Road salt I understand. But you need to haul gravel up there? I thought you used all the native rock. Just asking...

By ert, GA on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 04:51 pm:

Well, I was just all tickled to see a little boat going down the canal. Did I miss the big one?

By ert, GA on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 04:53 pm:

Nevermind, I should have read further back. I did miss the big one -- DARN!

By FOND OF THE FITZ on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 05:54 pm:

AS GREAT FREIGHTER'S GO SHE WAS BIGGER THAN MOST!

By Lori... commerce twp on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 08:04 pm:

Wow... thank you for sharing Mrs. Bill... the photo of the H. Lee White at dawn this morning is gorgeous!

By Skylar in Wi on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 08:20 pm:

John Dee's journal tonight also has a picture of the Frantz. Later, Skylar.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 09:05 pm:

Great shots of the bridge and boats. It reminds me of being a very little girl and seeing them with my grandfather.
