Good Morning from "chilly" Painesdale. Hope you all enjoy this "short" work week. I know I will.

By yahoo in flatland on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 09:38 am:

you can tell its hunting season... there is a lot less posting going on here lately.

By James - Il on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 10:04 am:

Where's the snow???

By Mr. Bill on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 10:45 am:

Put away the sun block and get the scooper waxed; They're predicting a chance of snow everyday through the weekend.

By what they don't know these days on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 11:14 am:

On Sunday a group from Kansas City came to our church. They had been up at Northland BBC in Dunbar WI. The past president of the college is Les Ollila from Calumet, hey. I told them I knew him and that we attended the same church. One young girl had never seen a Yooper before! She said she had no idea there were people up there. Dah.

By SUZANNE/ WISCONSIN on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 01:05 pm:

Hopefully someone can help me. Last year we stopped in Iron Mountain on our way to Fort Wilkins and checked out the ski jump. My husband told me they still use it. I can't believe that. Where do they come down? It would be on the houses at the bottom of the hill. Please someone let me know.

By Char, WI on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 01:55 pm:

Yes, Suzanne, they still use the Pine Mountain Ski Jump in Iron
Mountain. This winter they will hold Continental Cup Ski
Jumping Competition with jumpers competing from all over the
world. The event will be held February 25 & 26th, 2005. The
jump is on top of the hill and there is a snowy landing on the
hillside and an outrun where they stop. More information at:

YA know...that ski jump is SO bloody high. You can see it from just about every where on the "west coast".... Any one got any pics from the top of that thing? I bet you can see forever up there. How bout it Charlie?? Can you get up there?

By Dave, Laurium on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 04:47 pm:

Hey what ever happen to the little betsy guys?

By Mark, Calumet on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 04:54 pm:

They got gun down at gratiot lake.

By Joe Finn, Rhinelander, Wi on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 05:01 pm:

Copper Peak north of Bessemer is a ski flying hill. Only four in the world. If you think the one at Iron Mountian is high, you won't believe Copper Peak. They will have a ski flying tournament next year; televised by ESPN.

By Joe Finn, Rhinelander, Wi on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 05:07 pm:

Sorry second post. You can take a chair lift to the top of Copper Peak and then take the elevator to the top of the ski flying structure. From there you will see Michigan, Wisconson, Minnasota, and Canada.

By Yooper Willie on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 05:11 pm:

Dave, Laurium; What great colors in that picture.
An artist could not have done better. You captured
that scene at the right moment. Thanks for sharing
it with us.

By maijaMI on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 06:11 pm:

to what they don't know these days: I was in St. Ignace, on my way to calumet. In the restaurant, a woman said, greatly excited: "I never met an authentic yooper before!"

I just about choked laughing.

By maijaMI on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 06:12 pm:

Dave, Laurium: Wonderful picture, thanks!

By maijaMI on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 06:17 pm:

Hey, editors: How come the titles for topic pages (like ancestors and Mt. Bohemia) are not at the top of What's UP anymore?

Just asking, cause I thought that was good.

By Lori... Commerce Twp, Mi on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 07:24 pm:

wow... Dave, Laurium! Thank you for posting the sunrise photo, gosh it is gorgeous.

I just have to add the current lift bridge shot:

By Lori... Commerce Twp on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 07:47 pm:

oh and p.s. for Marija, I noticed there was no link to ancestors or new discussion on todays page too, but if you go to yesterdays page you can link to it. I am guessing the editors just need time to work out all the glitches of the new format.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 09:10 pm:

Dave,Laurium: Great shot!

By Elvira on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 09:10 pm:

Very nice picture of the sunrise Dave. Can't say I have seen many.

By Bthecute1, San Jose on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 09:15 pm:

Ahhhhh! The Betsy boys can't hit the broad side of a barn, let alone a poor helpless little doe-eyed deer.

By Emma, MI on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 12:19 am:

I think that Bthecute1 is on to something! Let's girls get together and show these guys who can bring home the bacon.

By J.D. on Monday, November 22, 2004 - 07:22 pm:
