Have a good weekend everyone!
First Post

By Alicia , Mi. on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 08:58 am:

Must have been a hard fire to put out in Osceola on Store St. last nite. Fire trucks just went out again .Heard on the news the house was empty, thank goodness.
Another sunny day here in the Keweenaw.
TGIF.

The annual Einerlei Holiday Open House is scheduled for Thursday, November 18th, from 7-9pm at the store in Chassell. Join them for a festive evening filled with food, friends, and unique gift ideas to get you started thinking about the upcoming holiday season! While you're there, say a big "Thank You" to Bill and the crew for helping to make the Pasty Cam possible, and their years of support for Pasty Central.

I don't know if Charlie or Mary are aware yet (9:10AM on Friday) but today's (Nov. 12) PastyCam link leads to Wednesday's (Nov. 10) pictures and discussion.

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 09:22 am:

Thanks for the astute observation, DaleB. Fixed.

By Hil, UP, MI on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 09:42 am:

Hurray it's Friday everyone! Lets get some excitement! The weekend is almost here. Time for last minute pre-winter projects around the house and yard! Have a good one!

By maijaMI on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 09:42 am:

I saw a deletion from yesterday's What's Up, and would like the editors to know that it was greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the thanks

By Bob on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 10:01 am:

Not only were they fighting the fire there,
they called Laurium to cover another fire they had
at the same time.

The boys were busy last night. Good Job guys

By Rose on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 10:17 am:

Where were these fires in Calumet last night? I am surmising a house on Store St. ( unoccupied? ) and somewhere else?

On another note--I picked up 3 of the Dan Urbanski memorial calendars today--I send them to my out-of-the-UP-kids so they don't forget where they came from. They (the calendars--well, kids too)are beautiful. Charlie, is there a possibility that you could post the locations? I miss that. My guesses are: Jan-Black River. Feb-The Lake-but where? Mar-anywhere. Apr-? May-anywhere. Jun-Lake of the Clouds. Jul-Tobin Harbor,Isle Royale. Aug-Lake of the Clouds-same view as June. Sept-Escarpment on Brockway. Oct-road-where? Nov-Where? Porkies? Dec-Where? Inside back cover: top left-Bond Falls or Presque Isle River? Top right-same as Nov. but different season?

Here is a big picture of the back cover of the 2005 Pasty Cam Memorial Calendar, which has smaller pictures of each month.

Hello Everyone! I don't know any of you as I have just stumbled up this site in the past couple of days. I am from Muskegon, MI but would love to some day end up living in the U.P. Everything about it intrigues me. I just thought I would say hi and wish you all a Happy Friday! : )

Welcome Debra!

By Kewgal on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 12:21 pm:

Rose - First Calumet Village got called out to an apt on Oak St but they had the fire out by the time the dept arrived! Then Calumet Township got called out to the fire on Store St and when they arrived it was totally engulfed and it was an old house and no one was living in it. In the mean time they called out Laurium Village to over by Florida Location thinking there was a fire in the woods over there, but what they were seeing was the smoke from the fire on Store St. The house on Store St is all gone and what remains in the foundation of the house.

By P on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 12:29 pm:

Hmmm, is store street off of US 41 by the State Police Post ?
Or is it by the Holiday, where the old Osceola Store was ???

Or is that Millionare Street ?

Thanks for the answer to whoever in advance...

We are all very happy about the guilty verdict here.

By k on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 05:09 pm:

Yhe wolfs news site has more articles than the Daily Mining Gazette I see...

Kudos to the wolf

By L on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 05:39 pm:

I dunno, I find that BOTH gazette articles are usually pretty informative. :) Kudos to The Wolf.

By Candy, CA on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 05:58 pm:

I think the Gazette just wants to make sure everyone buys their paper -- and lots of what the WOLF has online are thing the DMG has on its inside pages. Still...it's frustrating for me living in California trying to keep up with things back home. The paper takes a long time to get here if I subscribe, it's usually in bad condition from the long trip (I think it has to hitch-hike part of the way) and it's old news by the time I read it.

Dick Storm is still the best source in the CC -- and I spent 5 great years at the Gazette!!

By Newsy on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 06:12 pm:

WHUH ..{get it?}THE WOlf is being sold hope the new guys keep some news on line.

By Ms. Katie, Il. on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 09:31 pm:

Hi Debra and welcome. I discovered this site over a year ago and I'll warn you, it's habitforming. I check it out at least 2-3 times a day! The photos are very special, make you smile and/think. Wonderful variety. There's some awfully nice people there. (And an occasional grump :> to keep you on your toes. I have some good friends who live on Farr St. in Muskegon.

By opinionated on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 09:39 pm:

I am also happy about the Peterson verdict. I was worried when the 2 jurors were eliminated--not knowing what that really meant. I was hoping for 2nd degree, but 1st degree for the murder of Laci--yes! Hopefully appeals will not take forever. Hopefully he will get life without parole. I imagine it would be torture to a man like him to live in prison for ever. Death for him, in my opinion, would be too quick and merciful.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP on Friday, November 12, 2004 - 11:27 pm:

Thank you, Alex. We've been wondering what had happened to her. Mr. Wheatman, I'm shaking my head, and smiling. :>) Must have all the collegiate dictionaries close by. Maybe he's actually a 'word-cop'.

By Catherine--Holland MI on Saturday, November 13, 2004 - 12:09 am:

I think the Sept Urbanski pic (without seeing a larger one) is
the Lake of the Clouds escarpment looking west.

By danbury on Saturday, November 13, 2004 - 04:30 am:

Thank you for the pic of the calendar's back, so I can see what it looks like. :)
Delighted to see that my all-time (as of now) pasty.cam pic made it, too: August is the best. whenever I get bored by my desktop, I put this one back on.

By Rose on Saturday, November 13, 2004 - 05:06 am:

opinionated: I agree with you. I began watching this trial months ago and was shocked at every turn in the case. His blank look when given the verdict was chilling.

By danbury on Sunday, November 14, 2004 - 03:39 am:

Curious: What's with this Peterson guy?

By newsy on Sunday, November 14, 2004 - 06:42 pm:

Danbury incase this is what you wanted http://www.courttv.com/trials/peterson/

By danbury on Monday, November 15, 2004 - 12:05 pm:

Thnx, newsy!
