A little technical difficulty this morning. These messages fell through the cracks, but we caught 'em:

Good morning!

How do you get back to a pervious 'what's up'? There is no listing of dates on today's page. Going to Sunday's picture and clicking 'what's up' gets you today. Going to the home page gets you Saturday, which has a listing of dates, but only up to Saturday. I'm trying to get back to Sunday's 'what's up.'

Maija, First, when you go to Sunday's big picture page, click the "What'sUP" link just beneath the picture which says "Sunday - What'sUP?". This will be the way to access the 'What'sUP' page for any day: go to the day, look for the link at the TOP of the discussion. The link near the bottom always takes you to today's discussions.

Was It cloudy UP there last night or did anyone get a good look at the Northern Lights? We could see em down here in Rochester MN.

All northern light watchers', here's an informative sight for pictures and forcasts:

Space Weather News for Nov. 7, 2004 http://spaceweather.com

Big sunspot 696 unleashed an X-class solar flare on Sunday, Nov. 7th, and probably hurled another coronal mass ejection (CME) toward Earth. Solar wind conditions are favorable for a geomagnetic storm now (late Nov. 7th) and may become even more so when the CME arrives. Sky watchers: be alert for auroras on Nov. 7th, 8th and 9th. The best time to look is usually around local midnight.

There is still room in Keweenaw Krayons' "Art to Go" Scrapbook Workshop, to be held Tuesday, November 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Mohawk School. The workshop, "Fall Collections", will be led by Michelle Rose and will involve making scrapbook pages using recycled materials. You are invited to bring your photos, memorabilia and any special items you might want to incorporate into your scrapbook pages.

All participants will be given instructions and supplies to take home and continue the art with their families.

Sponsored in part by the Children's Trust Fund and the Superior Child Abuse Prevention Council, the workshop is free and open to all ages from pre-school through adult and any number of family members may attend.. In order to have enough supplies on hand, Pre-registration is required. Funds are available to provide taxi rides to those wanting to attend the class but lacking transportation.

For more information or to register call 337-4706.

To N.L.:
Try a search on Alibris.com
I have had luck with hard to find books on this website. Good luck.
Love to read.

By JAD, Oskar, MI on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 09:15 am:

N.L. Also try Snowbound Books in Marquette. (906)228-4448 or Aurora Books in Menominee (906)
863-5266 e-mail: aurora@mart.net If they have to search for the book it may cost you a small amount of money but you won't have to actually buy the book if you request a "quote." I have a
first edition, 1951, but I thought I had once seen a paperback re-edition at Aurora.

Another great place to find books is ABE books. I have found hard to find books at this site with the listings of all of the book I am looking for with different prices and condition. Good Luck!

By Sarah, Chassell on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 09:56 am:

Was driving back from downstate last night and the Northern Lights were spectacular in Marquette just after sunset. A website showed that they were seen as far south as Tennessee and as far west as California. They are suppose to be really intense the next couple of nights as well. Check them out.

NL Amazon.com has it, happy reading.

By NL on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 11:09 am:

Thank you for helping me find the book. As a matter of fact, I found several books I will be ordering.

I just got caught up on What's UP from Thursday on. Nice to see Aunt Norma from Midland jumping in on the discussions!

Aunt Norma- There have been times when I have felt a desire to go to Deer Camp myself but the more I think of it, the more I don't want to take part in some of the antics of the Little Betsy men. I propose that we set aside a week for the women of Little Betsy to enjoy!

Uncle Chuck, Uncle Mike, Marty and Cousin Ben: Please try to get some work done this week! I know it will be difficult!

Grandpa and Doug: If you are riding with Marty don't forget a life jacket, good luck, and I agree with Chuck- don't forget your pills!

By Norma in Midland on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 11:57 am:

Niece Sarah, Little Betsy, I am game for a womens week at Little Betsy. We should try and put that together. I however would really prefer summer weather to winter. And I too agree that we should let the guys have their time. I just am jealous that they are there for MY birthday. Oh well, I'm old enough to know better by now, don't you think. So, I will quit bugging the guys. Ben and Charlie will hopefully be leaving on Thursday, Ben will know for sure tonight. OH Boy, I have quiet time at home....

By Clueless in Genesee/Aura on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 12:41 pm:

Ok, I've heard so much about Little Betsy lately that I'm wondering where it is. Clue me in.

By Uncle Chuck, Little Betsy on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 01:00 pm:

Clueless in Genesee; Little Betsy is between Gay and Lac La Belle on the south shore, a great place, we'll be huntin there on Nov. 15th, the coffee pot is always on!

By Uncle Chuck, Little Betsy on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 01:05 pm:

Yooper, How much school are you missin? Any thing you need from Detroit? I'll bring it to you, let me know.

By Copper Country Girl, MN on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 01:39 pm:

The Lights were actually bright enough that I was able to see them in a very well lit area of Roseville, MN. This is the first time I've been able to see the Lights since I moved away from the Copper Country. I even dragged several other people out with me as they had all grown up in the Minneapolis area and had never seen the Northern Lights except in pictures.

By Louan-Elk Rapids on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 02:00 pm:

Well, here's a little recipe request. Does anyone have an old family recipe for Nisu (cardamom bread). I found a recipe but it is in an old book that assumes you are grinding your own cardamom seed. I can't convert the measurements. I don't know how much a single cardamom seed yields, and the store only sells ground cardamom. I've found them on line but the recipes are so different that I don't trust them. Can anyone help? I want one that is tried and true. I want a REAL-honest-to-gosh-UP Recipe. Thanks

By Rachel, wishing she were at Little Betsy on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 02:19 pm:

Hey, Norma, how about I have this baby on your birthday? If you're not busy then, you could come down and see it. I dropped sometime between last night and this morning so it won't be long now!!

By Lee, Mi. on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 02:42 pm:

Louan,
Try a seach engine and type in Pulla recipe (Americans call it Nisu). You will find many posted.I saw anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons in some recipes.Depends on how many you are making.

Louan-Elk Rapids
I sent you a recipe from my Grandmother via email.
Good Luck

Jewish "Challa" bread is very similar in taste. I find that at the Great Harvest Bread Co.

NOBODY NAME'S THEIR KID NORMA!

By Rachel from Little Betsy on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 07:41 pm:

Hey, now, Jennifer in TX. My aunt norma is named after her aunt norma and they are both the strongest women I know. They've been really great role models for me.

Actually, we'll just have to wait and see what I'm having before any any names are picked!

By theonewiththeenglishdegree on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 10:20 pm:

Thanks for letting me know that Beatrice O. has her own web site. I remember when Better Homes had an article on her and her cute house, several years ago. Have you ever noticed that several sounds so much better than many? Many sound like you have one foot in the grave!

By Scott Wi. on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 11:35 pm:

Anybody look outside to see if there
are any Northern lights??

I know the clouds are clearing...

By Fred, Three Lakes on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 12:02 am:

Nothing here in Three Lakes, Mi yet.
Lots of stars about 18 degrees, it's cold outside!

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 12:31 am:

Temp. here in Cornell is 23F. Northern Lights are out again but not as spectacular as last night. A friend called from Marquette today and they had an inch of snow. Only a few flakes here so far.

By Fred, Three Lakes on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 12:44 am:

The lights are faintly visible now that I shut my outside yardlight off, will try and get some pics.

By Scott Wis on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 01:45 am:

Reports online of some lights. The Nasa
website says they could increase later this

Here's an interesting site.
This keeps getting removed... why? There is nothing mean on there.
http://www.oldapostoliclutheran.com

Your post hasn't been removed from posting, just moved to the appropriate pages for discussing this subject! Right here on the Daily What's Up page is the forum for discussing subjects unrelated to the picture of the day. Thanks!

By cj on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 04:35 pm:

That makes sense. Thank you. I was wondering why other people put up links but mine gets taken down.
Still trying to find my way to navigate around this complex page. Pretty impressive...
