Traffic lights giving mixed signals, a mining shot titled Ohio Mine, you're probably thinking these can't be pictures in the U.P., but they are! Even though stop lights aren't as abundant UP north here, we do have our share, one of which Dan Brown captured making you think of traffic in the big cities - - stop and go! But then you look at the view with the snow just beginning to cover the surfaces around the mining waste pile in Michigamme taken by Joe Dase and you KNOW where you are, the good old Yoop. Perhaps the mixed up light is signaling the weather we've been having for the last few days with the snow falling off and on throughout.

Hey - - I was watching this brawl when suddenly a hockey game broke out. Last night Hancock beat up on Calumet (3-0), in a game you could hear on Pasty.NET, or in the Copper Country on 102.3 FM. It's known as the Copper Island Classic - - two games on two nights, where they combine the score to see who gets bragging rights. Hear the second half around 6:20pm this evening, and see if Calumet can come back with a 4 point edge, or if Hancock will keep up the torture. Such a commotion over a little black puck!

Whoa! Stop AND Go-- Tricky!

Beautiful pic of the snow over the mine. I've never seen that area of the UP before. Though knowing that it's a mine makes it just a little bit spooky- :o! Bet it's VERY deep water.

Good Morning,
I'm trying hard to get in a Christmas mood and your pictures help. We had a dusting of snow Wednesday night, and flurries (very few) yesterday but its not enough. I stumbled across notes from Therese from "just below the bridge" from Thursday (under the heading SNOW on the What'sUP area) that really summed up the way I feel about winter. Everyone thinks I'm nuts because I like winter and snow (except trying to get to work in it) but it is just a cozier time of year. I dream about moving north when we retire, but since my husband has problems with the cold it'll never happen. Thanks for all your pictures to fill my dreams

Here is a link to a radar weather pic of the storm front moving our way, the next 24 hours could get a bit messy in the Copper Country.

That traffic signal is hysterical! So is the fact that I haven't gotten my Toivo License Plate T-Shirt! (Cough... Clearing throat).

Dave... How did you get the light to blink?

Red AND Green ? Does that mean step on the brake and the gas at the same time? LOL

By Old player on Saturday, November 27, 2004 - 12:19 pm:

Gotta love that swamper hockey.

By Nancy, Massachusetts on Saturday, November 27, 2004 - 01:51 pm:

I know what the red and green means... pull
over, stop, and find the nearest restroom. To
stop, and go, so to speak. My mom used to
look for those signs all the time. :-)

The Onset
by Robert Frost

Always the same, when on a fated night
At last the gathered snow lets down as white
As may be in dark woods, and with a song
It shall not make again all winter long
Of hissing on the yet uncovered ground,
I almost stumble looking up and round,
As one who overtaken by the end
Gives up his errand, and lets death descend
Upon him where he is, with nothing done
To evil, no important triumph won,
More than if life had never been begun.

Yet all the precedent is on my side:
I know that winter death has never tried
The earth but it has failed: the snow may heap
In long storms an undrifted four feet deep
As measured again maple, birch, and oak,
It cannot check the peeper's silver croak;
And I shall see the snow all go down hill
In water of a slender April rill
That flashes tail through last year's withered brake
And dead weeds, like a disappearing snake.
Nothing will be left white but here a birch,
And there a clump of houses with a church.

Hello from wet soggy Mishawaka IN. Love the picture of the stop lite or go lite. Whatever. Now where is the Ohio Mine? Just checked the radar Dave from Laurium. Looks like your getting what we got this past week only I think your going to get more of it. Ours is all gone now. Now we have rain. Happy Snow Yoopers!

By Jim Copper Country on Saturday, November 27, 2004 - 04:09 pm:

OK....so where's the red/green traffic signal....in the Red & Green Show's backyard? Meanwhile, the old
Ohio Mine is west of Michigamme and east of Three Lakes, just off US 41 on the south side, in far eastern Baraga County.

Red and Green....don't you all know those are Christmas colors...shop till you drop or whatever strikes your fancy.

In High School Hockey Saturday evening Calumet won 2-1, but Hancock ended the series ahead 4-2, winning the Copper Island Classic, heard live at Pasty.NET
and Kbear 102.3 FM.

That's a situation where you'd want 2 treat that intersection like a 4-way stop 4 safety's sake.
