Interesting note for the people on these sites-

I have been asked, "Why don't I post under my real name?" The truth is that I did when this whole thing started on line. When I did, my motive was the same. To help people focus on the real issues of this matter and create a communication. Well, I recieved more emails and results under the "Realist" tag. Its interesting that people reacted more to some faceless name than the true person.

This is a good example of many people and this issue. People would rather get their "facts" or ideas from a bar stool, cereal box, magic 8-ball, KT site, deck of card, etc. than going to the source, ie. Board Members, Mr. Kohs, Crosswinds, business owners, etc. I have tried hard to create a line of communication with all the above and have done so.

realist

Don't be fooled, I have very strong ties in Keweenaw and this issue.

mrsm.
I'm sorry I didn't realize that the only people that should be given any credence in this matter were people that live here or in llb proper.
Someone should really get these ground rules into play so the rest of us that obviously can't see because of the green mist in our eye can get it right. If you all are expecting this business or any other that comes to town to sit on it's butt waiting to placate you, you had better get a clue my friend. This business has been more than willing to work with the community, in fact more so than most.
Just remember Ignorance can be fixed stupid is forever.
Have a good one

Why so many of us a million years ago purposely knocked out major chunks of our brains with alcohol from time to time remains an interesting mystery. It may be that we were trying to give evolution a shove in the right direction--in the direction of smaller brains.

jumping while drunk was easy. Climbing anything the least bit complicated was something else again.

…a particularly tragic flaw a million years ago, since the people who were best informed about the state of the planet…and rich and powerful enough to slow down all the waste and destruction going on, were by definition well fed.

I find it simply amazing that the people against Mt. Bohemia are so arrogant. It's my way or no way. I'm right and your wrong. Maritime law, what about the pedestrian always has the right of way? Or have the rules of the road been changed? As far as I know, a vehicle is supposed to drive on the road, not the shoulder If you look at where most of them are from, they do not even live in LLB (black jeep, down south, realist, etc). Some might live in the U.P. but not LLB. I really wonder what their opinion would be if they lived in LLB or owned property. Maybe because they do not or can not, they can not see beyond their noses. (A little bit of the green eyed monster?) Maybe the hill is a good thing and maybe it is not. I just don't think the people that live there or who are against it, are being given fair consideration.

The Beer Theory
A herd of beefalo's can only move as fast as the slowest beefalo. When the herd is hunted,it is the slowest and the weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much
the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol,we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the a faster and more efficient machine. And that's why you always feel smarter after a few beers!

NATURE BOY

There was was a boy, a very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far very far
Over land and sea

A little shy and sad of eye, but very wise was he

And then one day, a magic day, he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things, fools and kings
This he said to me

The greatest you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return

Group Details Decline of Ecosystems
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
BRUSSELS, Belgium -- The natural wealth of the world's ecosystems has declined by a third over the past 30 years, according to a World Wildlife Fund study published Friday.
The Living Planet Report 2000 also showed that the area of land mass and ocean needed to produce natural resources for consumers and to absorb carbon dioxide pollution has doubled since 1961.
In its annual assessment of the earth's environment, the group blamed much of the damage on the rich northern countries at the expense of habitat in the tropical rain forests.
``Mankind cannot afford to keep drawing so heavily on the world's natural resources,'' said Professor Ruud Lubbers, the former Dutch prime minister, and the World Wildlife Fund's international president. ``We have borrowed this planet from our children and our grandchildren.''
The World Wildlife Fund said it measures the state of ecosystems based on the populations of species in the world's forests, fresh waters and oceans. It found that ecosystems had declined between 1970 and 1999 by 12 percent in the forests, 50 percent in fresh waters, and 35 percent in the oceans.
The study said the pressure of mankind on nature had increased by about 50 percent over the same period and had now gone beyond the planet's ability to regenerate.

I find it amusing that when this board was under the KT realm, and the posts were changed, people started to cry censorship..... Now there is no mention of any kind when the posts are changed......

GOOD POINT, Sam... Under Keweenaw Today there was no alternative to pure censorship, which ultimately was decided by Gary Kohs (who is no longer associated with us). Here in Keweenaw Issues, we give people a place to take responsibility for their comments (see
Responsible Opinions), and if they choose to be irresponsible on that message board - by not identifying themselves, or being inflammatory - the comments are not "censored" but rather "downgraded" to RANTINGS. This seems to be a good compromise for maintaining peace here on the information superhighway.

Thanks for your comment, Sam, even if it was anonymous. Now go treat yourself to a pasty :o).

Dear Ms. Realist, I read your post when it was on the responsible post site. I wonder why you are unwilling to express your opinions under your real name. Your ideas are expressed in a passionate manner and you deserve to be recognized for them.

By realist on Friday, October 20, 2000 - 04:05 am:

Wow,
You have got to be kidding Ms. LaBlanc. First, the best way to get support from Houghton is to insult their city. You are very smart on that.

Second, even mentioning USS Cole with anything that has to do with Keweenaw is ignorant and insulting. Please have some respect.

Third, stop by the look out point on Quincy Hill. Read about the Keweenaw waterway. Now tell us who stole what from whom.

Village and shops in Hancock? wern't you just closing your eyes and imagining against such a thing in LLB. You are a hypocrite, period.

Im probably going to be erased from this site for not using my name but I have to say something.

Turbulence times indeed these are. Ski-Hill or not to Ski-Hill, the question isn't that it? To we who are to decide this that now I must'th asketh youse:
"Is a Black Bear in the woods, wintering, as truthful as the Pope in Rome where he resideth? So how thee thinkest thou? Well your opinions, what it is then?"

"Are not these woods more free from peril than the envious court? Here feel we but the penalty of Adam, the seasons' difference: as the icy fang and churlish chiding of the winter's wind, which when it bites and blows upon my body, even till I shrink with cold, I smile and say, this is no flattery: these are counsellors that feelingly persuade me what I am.
Sweet are the uses of adversity; which , like the toad, ugly and venomous, wears yet a precious jewel in his head; and this our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones and good in everything.
I would not change it"

And so the debates end, one man the smirking candidate for the Criminal Party and the other man the robot-like candidate for the Idiot Party.

We can choose the Criminal if we want to rob our kids to slash taxes on the crowd that stole tons of money from Washington during the 1980s. Or we can choose the Idiot if we want to squander our kids' money to make it easier for a generation who first squandered their parents' money and then squandered their own money.

Once upon a rainy Tuesday,
Near the wooden LacLaBelle gangway
Near the water, the autumn shoreline
By the Coming Soon painted sign
Three dudes dressed in tree-bark camo

'Tis the heroes three, all asinine
Last seen in June? On the coastline?
Ray Don Gass! Roy G Biv!
Wait! Is that Walt not in a tiv?
All three in line, waiting it seems.

Closer, closer, we draw near to them
Ray: You cain't dance! Watch out! I've got some phlegm!
Roy: I will, I will, the ballroom dance!
The ladies, I'm certain, will want the chance
Walt: Think of it! Winter work!

(Roy and Ray exchange knowing glances. He is a kook.)

All three: First in line! We will be hired!
The Keweenaw Cruise Ship! But how we're attired!
Ray Don: Wee, wee, I'm tired, I long to sleep
But look, on yon horizon, a ship doth creep!
All three: 'Tis the Walloping Window Blind!

Our heroes glance about for the protesting thirteen
'Tis too easy, too easy, they're nowhere to be seen
Paul Campbell, Janet, Sandra, all from the COUNTY
And surely nearby, that Keweenaw Mounty!

Roy: Think of it! A ballroom dancer,
On the Walloping Window Blind!
Ray Don: And me with my guitar, my songs, my ballads!
This gosh darn leg, she's still a scratchin'!
Walt, realizing winter is coming, not as resolute:
Well, maybe we can paint? We can mop the floor?

All three: The Keweenaw Cruise Ship!
The Walloping Window Blind!

Seasonal winter jobs would are the ticket for the summer seasonal job worker (i.e. construction). And more jobs are not going to hurt, either. Seems the more jobs available, the fewer seeking positions, the more likely those seeking jobs can request a higher wage. Now, what would be wrong with that?

Testing......I normally use Mac edition IE 4.5 to post messages. However, on this message board, this add-a-message box appears only half the width of the page. When I enter a message, IE 4.5 automatically adds returns when the typing reaches the righthand edge of the window; thus, a very short line of type. Also, no matter how short my message--even one too short the fill the length of the window, the last line is truncated. This seems to be a conflict within IE 4.5 Mac version. I am now using Netscape in this test, the message box appears as covering the full width of the screen and gives much more room for typing. To test the length of the message (I'm out of things to say), I'll just add goop....
Now is the time
for all good men
to come to the aid

Now is the time
for all good Keweenaw
Citizens to come to
the aid of their
County by voting
NO in Proposal B.
Thanks for the test, pasty.com.

By Fly-on-the-wall on Sunday, October 15, 2000 - 09:47 am:

Unfortunately the jobs Crosswinds speak of are only winter jobs, dependant on natural snow, just like snowmobile related jobs. A good season will be Dec. 1/April 1. The two dead seasons, or shoulder seasons, exist for those jobs, and sea-kayaking and hiking aren't likely to provide many jobs in summer. So we still have snow-related, seasonal work, not much improvement on what we currently have.
