Eight years ago, Jonathan Hopper caught the sun going down on a scene that doesn't look much like December. With a couple of inches of snow yesterday, it looks like December this year.

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 07:30 am:

The picture doesn't even look like the month of December. There are too many leaves on all of the trees.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 07:49 am:

The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese. Hope you like cheese, Mr. Deb.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 07:50 am:

Now, for being the early bird, do I get a free pasty or something?

By joanne sherick (Shedoesnails) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 07:55 am:

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 08:28 am:

It's a snow day here!

Ole and Lena were sitting down to their usual morning cup of coffee, listening to the weather report coming over the radio.

"There will be 3 to 5 inches of snow today, and a snow emergency has been declared," the weather report said. "You must park your cars on the odd numbered side of the streets."

Ole says "Jeez, okay," and gets up from his coffee.

The next day they're sitting down with their morning cups of coffee and the weather forecast declares "There will be 2 to 4 inches of snow today, and a snow emergency has been declared. You must park your cars on the even numbered side of the streets."

Again, Ole says "Jeez, okay," and gets up from his coffee.

Two days later, again they're sitting down with their cups of coffee and the weather forecast says, "There will be 6 to 9 inches of snow today, and a snow emergency has been declared. You must park your cars on the - "

Just then the power goes out and Ole doesn't get the rest of the instructions.

He turns to Lena and says "Jeez, what am I going to do now, Lena?"

Lena replies "Aw, Ole, why don't you just leave the car in the garage today?"

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 09:15 am:

looks like fun from Chicago to Green bay today ;-)

Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 3 PM CST this
afternoon...

A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 3 PM CST this
afternoon.

Heavy snowfall of 8 to 13 inches will combine with strong
northeast winds gusting to 40 mph at times to create blizzard
conditions across portions of Milwaukee... Racine and Kenosha
counties. Visibilities in the snow and blowing snow will
frequently be below one quarter mile.

The morning commute will be treacherous. This is a very dangerous
situation. Travel is not recommended however persons deciding to
venture out are urged to slow down and drive with caution... and
allow yourself plenty of extra time. Remember your safe winter
driving skills!

If you leave the safety of indoors... you are putting your life at
risk. If you must travel... bring along a winter survival kit and
stay with your car if you become stranded.

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 10:17 am:

Hi all
No blizzards down here in SE Michigan, just extremely heavy rain when I went to work. Though there was one patch of what felt like black ice on the drive in, but everyone was cautious and no accidents due to that. I did hear reports that a couple of downed trees caused accidents. No, they didn't drop down on a hapless motorist, but people crashed trying to avoid them.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 10:31 am:

Congrats Joanie, I hope your gold egg arrives before Christmas so you can put it on the tree. As you know you get a golden egg for being the early bird I have several, but Deb has to have a room added to her house for all of her eggs. Enjoy it today since it is your day. Hope you can get the oil off. Yeah look for it and let me know when it shows up..................

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 11:16 am:

Can you make that golden egg over easy, 4 strips of bacon, hash browns and whole wheat toast? This snow has given me a big appetite. It rained and sleeted all night and through early morning. At 6:00AM it turned to snow. We have about 4" on the ground and it is a wet slushy messy snow.

By FJL (Langoman) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 12:04 pm:

8 to 12 inches predicted. Snuggled in a warm house, big pot of chili on the stove. Let er blow.........

By Jacobsville (Barb) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 12:11 pm:

While driving to town from Jacobsville, I happened to notice
something odd on the side of the road. The next day I had my
trusty, rusty camera with me and took these pictures. Asplund
has been trimming trees near the power lines. They must have
gotten a kick out of leaving this one like it is :o)

It is on the Bootjack Road…

Nice shots Barb, how long will it stay like that?
Mr. Deb

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 01:39 pm:

FJL, ditto, same going on here. My better half, (wayyyy better half), took off from work today and is now making a big pot of chili. I think he made enough to feed the entire UP, so if you all wanna come down for supper, it should be done around 5:00, your time.
Enjoy the snow!

By Jacobsville (Barb) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 01:47 pm:

Mr. Deb, a very good question! If anybody can find out, let us all
know.

By Roger Somero (Rsomero) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 02:33 pm:

No snow or rain here-55 degrees and sun.

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 03:57 pm:

I feel so sorry for the sled dogs even though I know they sure do love the snow. Ever wonder about how they're trained.......................
They're trained in "MUSH ROOMS'!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 04:31 pm:

By the looks of that chunk of wood, it's been a couple of months since they trimmed last.
Mr. deb

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 04:42 pm:

You know you're a Yooper ... When you have more miles on your snow-blower than your car!

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 05:22 pm:

Now please pay attention to these words of advice:

What's a good holiday tip?
Never catch snowflakes with your tongue until all the birds have gone south for the winter. It could be bad for the taste!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 05:29 pm:

Joanie, Groan, your jokes are the same groaners as your poor departed brothers.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Friday, December 1, 2006 - 11:01 pm:

Joanie, you need to be on stage, keep it up!

By FJL (Langoman) on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 09:26 am:

There's one leaving in 20 minutes.......

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Saturday, December 2, 2006 - 09:41 am:

Real funny FJL, only if you go to Groanland with me!
