Our final Shoebox Memory of 2006...

The Pasty Cam itself has become one giant shoebox of memories over the years. One of my favorite pictures from the archives is this sun pillar which was taken by my son Jonathan at the very end of 2000. We were driving home from Calumet together, and passing through Mohawk he happened to see this sight in the rear-view mirror. I pulled over, he jumped out and framed the heavenly scene through pine trees along US-41, shrouded in a blanket of new snow. This cross of light first appeared as the monthly memorial in January 2001. It seems like only yesterday...

We come to the end of another year - how quickly they pass - and also to another monthly remembrance of friends and loved ones recently departed. You are welcome to add to this list:

What a beautiful photo - pictures of nature always move me. Happy birthday to my brother Dave who we lost five years ago tomorrow. I still miss him and think of him so often. Happy New Year to all and have a safe evening!

Paul LaHaie who built the countries best electric sauna stoves in Dollar Bay, and a few great metal boats. RCW helped him when he left the Blue Goose.
Don Nelson and his brother Frank grew up with me on Arch St in Marquette back in the 30s. He was an early member of our Marquette Maritime Museum Board.

Remembering my mother, Lori Marsy, who passed away on December 16, 2001. I think of her often and miss her more than words can say. What a perfect picture to post for the final day of 2006......I see a cross in the reflection of the sunset!

Remembering our parents, Norman and Helen Pooley and Ed and Sophie Kuusisto, Aunt Lyle Pooley,Cousin Janet Trasti, Niece Karen Kuusisto and our brother in law and friend, Wayne Hartmann. You are loved and missed every day.

Our prayers are with the Nelsons and all the families during this time. Does anyone know Did Don live next to the fire station in Marquette and have a little house in Jacobsville? If so I believe I met him once, very knowledgeable and pasionate about preserving the history of the Coast Guard and Lake Superior.

Remembering my mother June D.K. Houle, brother-in-law Doug Halgren, and my favorite Uncle Joe Houle, all who passed away in 2006. May they rest in peace.

In memory of my son, Andy DeBroka, who died April 2, 1999 at age 34. So young to go and missed every day by Mom, Dad and brother, Erik. In memory of my friend, Sue Artusi. She died Aug. 17, 2006 after a brief battle with breast cancer. I miss her jokes and laughter but most of all her caring ways. Also, remembering those who lost thier lives serving this country.

In memory of Frank Powers, Jr., who passed on December 3, and was put to rest on Dec. 6 - what would have been his 77th birthday. He was a generous, honest, and genuine man, and he made his ever-growing family know that they were loved.

Happy 60th Birthday Norm, A Mass City boy, who checked this site daily from Fl. Being in WI, I felt in touch with him every day as I did the same. Gone to "Biker Heaven" in May this year. Missed so very much.

I remember my friend, Billy, who died at age 12 after being hit by a car. I will ALWAYS remember him.

This year my aunt Effie Lahti passed on in February and my mom Senia Lahti passed on in August. They were close sisters in this life, and I am glad they are together again in heaven. They would have both enjoyed today's photo, as I do, especially with the cross of light.

Paul, yes it sure is sad not to see the "Made In USA" labels anymore. What a shame!

I lost my buddy Bruiser to canine lymphoma this past Decemeber 14 he was the best friend I could ever ask for I'll miss him dearly...

Tanya, all dogs go to heaven, Bruiser is up there playing with Weedy. Man's best friend; gone but not forgotten. So sorry I know how difficult it is, I still cry after 3 1/2 years.

Thanks for your kind words Don, I know my husband cared a great
deal about the Marquette Maritime Museum, and his dad Frank was
involved in starting it I believe. Don donated a bunch of maritime
artifacts. And Mike (Upboundeh), yes, that was Don on Front Street.
We lived there from 1977 until he retired in 1991. We bought our
"cottage" here in Jacobsville in 1984 and moved here in 1991. It
was like coming home. I will miss him an awful lot.

Remembering my husband Norman R. Cudlip who has ties to the U.P. dating back to the 1800's We were married for 53 years and he passed away Wed. Dec. 27th on his deceased mother's birthday.

In Memory of my Grandmother Rose Walstrom. It is 21 years since she passed away. (December 1985) I think of her every day.

In memory of our friend Tim McCoy and his dog, Jack, who were killed in a terrible accident on the Seney stretch Dec 28, 2006. He loved the U.P. and spent many happy days there hunting, fishing and snowmobilibg with family and friends enjoying all that the UP offers. He will be greatly missed.

Eliisa--So sorry to hear about your friend and his dog. I read the
story in the "Mining Journal" when I was in the UP last week. It
always puts a story in perspective when we remember that the
accident victim was somebody's family member, friend and/or
man's best friend.
