Hancock and her sister city in Finland, Porvoo initially started the "Doors, doors, doors" project, which has grown into a fine display of art. Robert C Wetton, spotted this artistic display, coming off the bridge as you head into Hancock. Just as you round the curve, you're greeted by a wall of red and green painted doors, spelling out "Peace on Earth". A great message for this time of year. RCW then ventured into downtown Hancock to get the second shot showing a couple of the doors that are adorning the city sidewalks with angels and ball ornaments. Quite a unique way to celebrate the season!

Yikes----looks like spring time in the Copper Country. Where is the snow???
By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 08:29 am:
From the looks of the weather forecast, Suna, the snowfall will be there by tonight, since a heavy snow warning is in effect. At least some (besides the west) will have a white Christmas! Merry Christmas, everyone!
By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 08:51 am:
Dotsie,
about 100 miles to the south west and closing fast! Gonna be messy, everyone hitting the road drive safe. Merry Christmas!
Today Rain and snow showers likely...with a chance of freezing drizzle or sleet early. Rain and snow from mid afternoon on. Highs around 38. East winds 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight Rain and snow early...then snow after midnight. Snow accumulation of 7 to 9 inches. Lows around 33. North winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.

What a great idea, decorating old doors for Christmas.

I think Hancock is on the North side of the bridge...

Thanks for the update on the weather. I told my family in Hancock they would have a white Christmas. Just notice my sign in name is wrong. OOPS< should be sauna not suna.
By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 12:05 pm:
It is so wet and dreary here it doesn't feel like it is so close to Christmas. I would rather 10 feet of snow than this.
By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 12:52 pm:
At least it cooled off here to the 50's, so a little more tolerable but still not a white Christmas. I guess if I want to see snow, I'll have to come up for Carnival....
By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 01:44 pm:
Hey remember if you want to see snow, unplug the cable or antennae from your T.V., turn the volume down and enjoy the snow!
I'm gonna do that right now!
(I can't take credit for this idea, it belongs to Capt. Paul, sigh).
By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 02:26 pm:
True, but the TV just can't replicate those -20 temps so common with Carnival; and what about the all-nighter?? Besides, with Tech doing so great this year, the good Dr. and I would want to cheer on our team!!

Love the doors. What a neat idea. The decorator needs a pat on the back. Wonderful.

Like my mother always told us when we were little and wanted a white Christmas here in the South -- the first Christmas wasn't white!!!
By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 05:35 pm:
Goes to show ya, there are more uses for doors than just slamming them shut.
By Danielle Adams (Badkid) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 06:41 pm:
Howdy from wet country lol My yard is like a swimming hole, but I still rather the rain over the snow, but if all holds true we're suppossed to get some white stuff.
I painted a door back this summer. I go to Hancock nearly everyday as I work at Portage Health and attend Finlandia also. So yep, hehe I see these almost daily.
Here's a pic of me earlier this afternoon out in the backyard before it started raining.
By Danielle Adams (Badkid) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 06:46 pm:
oh yeah and it's snowing outside grrrrrr, oh well i hope we don't get as much as they are saying we're suppossed to.
By Connie, Eagle River Alaska (Connie8792) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 09:09 pm:
Wow, what a neat idea using doors!
By Bob Tiura (Bobtiura) on Friday, December 22, 2006 - 11:54 pm:
It looks like the Copper Country will be getting a "Louisiana Clipper", from the southeast. It shouldn't be too bad, unless it swirls for more than a day.
By Tom Bell (Ricelakeandwi) on Thursday, December 28, 2006 - 06:23 pm:
Can't wait to get up there for the first time with snow! It will be nice to cross the bridge and see the doors. I bought land this spring, and I was up there to cut a x-mas tree down in early December (no snow!) I wan't to take some pics of my land with beautiful snow!!!!!
