Jonathan Hopper and PastyVision visited Seneca Lake eight years ago and a very calm day. The Keweenaw will be unseasonably warm again today, with temperatures in the mid-50s. Then the winds will howl and the temps will drop for the weekend.

Indian Summer in the Keweenaw??

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 - 08:51 am:

Indian Summer:

A period of warm, summer-like weather following the first few freezes or frosts of the fall. It is also sometimes called goose summer, why? Is it because the geese start flying South?
Come on Captain Paul, I know you know! Is that why it's also called goose summer?

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 - 08:58 am:

Morning all. Gonna be in high 60's for us. So I'm washing sheets to hang out. Can't beat that fresh smell when putting them on the bed! I'm going to try digging some of my old chive plant to see if I can nurse it thru the winter on a window sill. Aren't we all glad the election is over!!! Back to loud car commercials, medicines and idiot goofy commercials?! Have a good one.:>)

Happy birthday Katina. Kate, wish I could hang sheets out here. It's raining but supposed to go in the 50's. Hope you get your computer fixed soon.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 - 11:06 am:

It's called Goose Summer because it is the time of the year when Gossamer (a Middle English shortening of goose-summer-thread) threads tend to drift about in the air. It also comes from the German Gänsemonat, or November, the time when geese are at their fattest and best for eating.

Dr. Nat's Grandmother, who was German, absolutely loved goose and once ate an entire bird in one sitting!! Me, I can't stand goose; give me a pheasant or partridge anyday; mmmmmmm.

Captain Paul, how 'bout I enter you in Jeopardy! You'd make a killing!
Never had goose, don't think I want to. Tried duck and didn't know it was all dark meat. Is goose all dark meat too? Love pheasant too!
