You may recall that 2006 began with a Shoebox Memory from Melodie Hayes about a ski party in Spread Eagle, WI, just across the U.P. border near Iron Mountain.

ski party
Today's Thanksgiving memory is at the house of Melodie's friend Margo, recalling perhaps how your own kitchen looked if you remember 1960 (like I do).

How this year has flown! Hard to believe we are entering the "home stretch" of 2006, the busiest time of year here at Pasty Central. Our holiday shipping schedule is quickly filling up, keeping the pasty bakers busy in the new expanded kitchen next door to The Hut on US-41 north of Calumet. By the way, on Thursday The Hut will be closed, and the pasty kitchen empty, as we all spend Thanksgiving day with family and friends. Hope you can do the same.

Have a good week :o)

Early bird?

Boy does that picture "Giving Thanks" bring back some golden memories.

By Becca (Bec) on Sunday, November 19, 2006 - 11:10 am:

That sure looks like an "old-timey" picture but I was about that age in 1960!

By Budone (Budone) on Sunday, November 19, 2006 - 01:51 pm:

The Picture brought back memories for me also. I have a picture tucked away somewhere of me being maybe two or three years old getting ready to attack that big 'ol bird sitting on the table. That thing had to be 20+ pounds.

Everyone have a safe and great Thanksgiving.

Now why would an old retired guy like Ray Laakanieme be up so
early today? I'm an old geezer myself, and it look a lot of crying
into my beer last night to get over that oh-so-tuff loss to OSU.
You didn't see me up so early today. When I did, tho, and I
checked the Mining Journal to see how the Mighty Maroons of
Menominee did yesterday in their state semi-final game, I
cheered right up! What a team! They beat a team from Saginaw
34-0. No team in the play-offs has scored a point against them
yet. Next Saturday they play for the state title in Division 5.
Meanwhile, the team from the Michigan forests near where I
think Ray Laakaniemi has his camp, Crystal Falls Forest Park, will
also be in the state finals after beating a team from Mt. Pleasant
37-21. Not bad for the U.P., eh?

Helen, those were the days! God Bless You Too!

By JAD, Oscar, MI (Jandalq) on Sunday, November 19, 2006 - 06:39 pm:

Hooray for the Menominee Maroons! I was a cheerleader for them from 1942-1946! I still have my "letter." And they beat Marinette in their Centennial game this year too. Re the photo--what I would give for that milk bottle...
