Today's view is courtesy of Paul Talvensaari and is taken from the Quincy Hill, but looking in a different direction than we're used to from this vantage point. That's west Houghton across the way, with the Houghton Elementary building topping Bridge Street. The trees on the hillsides are bare this time of year, so you notice how many evergreens there are in the Keweenaw, as the green stands out amidst the gray of fall. Before you know it....this will all be white!

Beautiful shot, almost looks like it was taken in Europe somewhere.

First message, but have been enjoying the views for awhile.Born and raised in UP,moved in 1961-job.But have a special spot in my heart for the UP.Love this shot of the bridge. I remember playing on Quincy hill as a kid.Have given the site to my daughter so she can see the beautiful area where she was born.Looking forward to future sights, thanks.

Thanks for the great picture of West Houghton, where I grew up. When I enlarge the picture I can actually see the house I grew up in and can identify the homes of our neighbors. Walked to Houghton High School from Kindergarten through Senior Year. Those were the days! Now I'm really getting homesick......

By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 02:36 pm:

Too bad the Quincy lookout is growing in with all those trees. I suppose someone owns the property and won't allow the trees to be taken down to see the view like it used to be once before.

By Alex J. Tiensivu (Ajtiensivu) on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 02:43 pm:

Love that bridge!!!!!

By Mr. Bill (Mrbill) on Saturday, November 4, 2006 - 07:22 pm:

The property on the Quincy Ridge IS for sale, and now has gas, fire hydrants, and electric "spudded" in.

Buy the property and do whatever you want with the trees.

Wow! and to think this is almost the view we saw almost daily when living on Quincy Hill (Pewabic)as a boy. Well, we were further up and to the west. Two houses from the #2 Steam Hoist building to be exact. Of course then it was the old swing bridge!

My Uncle Tom & Aunt Julia lived in a big old Victorian house on Bridge Street I think just below the 2 big white with brown roofs Condos(?) in the upper left corner. Looks like its gone now!

We just found a decent 1964 photo I took at the Houghton end of the bridge looking across to the west end of Hancock. Been trying to pick out the houses and buildings! I put this photo in my guest gallery in the "Bridges" album

Welcome Carol!I Or I guess I should say, good to hear from you. I
hope your daughter enjoys the site. My daughter has visited it a
couple of times, but opted instead for the original--moving to the
UP over a year ago.

Welcome Carol! You'll love the pictures and the conversation!

Grace! I couldn't agree more. I've been saying for years that some of the trees need to come down up there and especially along all of the lake shore drives. They're no longer "scenic", with all of the trees in the way. I so miss being able to see the lakes. The "circle tours" aren't nearly as enjoyable with all the trees around them. Soon, people will not want to take them.
