The Patsy Cam and PastyVision ended the week eight years ago with this shot of M-26 cutting through the Cliff range.

I took a shot almost like this when we were there the first weekend of the month. Only I aimed mine TOWARD Eagle River. They're both pretty!

By Erica - Florida Keys (Erica) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 09:39 am:

Spent the entire month of September and 4 days of October in the UP. Can hardly believe I was there and am back home again, time just flew. I have run out of superlatives. The colors were beautiful from east to west,in the Porkies,Calumet,Copper Harbor,Munising, all over. The weather was crisp and cool and the people friendly. We saw Bond Falls,TAQ.Falls,Lake of the Clouds and so much more!
My only disappointment was learning Still Waters had to close down. I also missed the opening of The Hut
and every time we drove past it I kept thinking "tomorrow?"
We are in our eighties, but we are hoping to drive
UP again next year. Hope springs eternal!

Erika.
souds like you had a wonderful trip.
the u.p. is something you never forget. it's so beautiful.and the people so nice. Just as the ones that visit this site daily.
did you visit brockway mountain? this is my most favorite spot in the world. thanks for sharing your trip with us.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 10:49 am:

Erica: Didn't you love Bond Falls?! It is so much nicer now and easily accessible. I saw people in wheelchairs and with walkers going down the boardwalk.

By Erica - Florida Keys (Erica) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 11:15 am:

Joanne,we did take the Brockway Mt. drive. It is always a "must see".Also drove all of 41 and took 26 from Copper Harbor to Eagle River.Saw Mt.Bohemia and McClain Park and drove the Cliff Drive. The colors were unbelievable...absolutely fantastic!
Marsha,Bond Falls are so beautiful. You are right, they are very accessible. Can you believe it? We were the only 2 people there at the time we stopped and had it all to ourselves!
When we left the UP we stopped at Letho's (not sure
of the spelling)and picked up some pasties...2 for the road and the rest for the freezer(we were pulling our trailer).Stopped at a lovely overlook
to eat them and enjoy and savor our last few minutes UP.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 11:45 am:

Letho's = Lehto's (accent on the first syllable: Leh-to)

By Alison P (Ricelakealison) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 11:53 am:

Just wondering if I have missed something...Is George Hite OK? Seems mighty late for him to be pulling into dock...hopefully I'm just a worrywart that fusses needlessly.

Anyone know?

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 12:40 pm:

Lehto's has the best Pasties in the eastern U.P.! They get my vote all the time!!

By Larry Parker (3literpwr) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 12:44 pm:

A little off topic here, but how is the snow on the back roads right now? I am racing in the LSPR rally this weekend and tire choice is going to be tuff... I hear there is still deep snow down in Baraga area? Anyone know if this is true?

Regards
LP (Berkley MI)

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 01:17 pm:

Larry: email bctra@up.net and Tracey will tell you everything you want to know. Tell her Marsha sent you! They also have a website for Baraga County Tourist & Recreation Association. Tracey is in charge of the snowmobile trails, etc., so she knows her stuff!

By Larry Parker (3literpwr) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 01:41 pm:

Thanks!

By Larry Parker (3literpwr) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 02:20 pm:

Brockway Mtn is a GREAT drive and a even better one at 70-100mph!!... I love the UP so much, but we always race the last week of Oct and almost always miss the peak of color... Hopefully the sun will peak out and dry out the roads a bit... So where is this Lethos Pasties joint? I have my cooler ready to transport some to the service areas on the race...

Regards

Lehto's is on US 2, 7 miles west of St. Ignace. Stopped there on the way up to the Keweenaw and ate the pasty in the car while driving. On the way home it was too early in the morning so they weren't opened yet, but they are going to have a website that you can order the pasties.

Carole (Carole):
"Lehto's is ... going to have a website that you can order the pasties."

Oh?

Then before accepting any pasty orders, Lehto's better have a USDA approved facility, as Pasty Central does. Absent that USDA approval, that would be illegal!

Does anyone know what is going on with the bridge cam? Every time I check it, it seems to be frozen or a few days old. Just wondering if anyone knew anything about it.
Thanks

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 08:20 pm:

Carmen, I'm not sure what's going on w/ BridgeCam. I think Charlie explained it several months ago but I forget what he said. My guess is that there is a problem w/ the camera, and Charlie has been SO busy lately that this has been pushed to the back burner. Understandable but I surely do miss it. You can check out the area on this website but it's just not the same as BridgeCam: http://www.admin.mtu.edu/urel/cams/fund/motion.html

I, too, have been worried about George Hite. Seems like he must be back now from his explorations. Looking forward for his pic from his view.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 08:52 pm:

Alison P., I have wondering about George Hite also. I wouldn't like to be out on the big lake this time of year. Hope everything is alright with George and he's just busy getting ready for the winter to come.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 09:04 pm:

Speaking of the lake, what ever happened to the pirate who was always on here last spring?

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 11:09 pm:

Eugenia Charlie does not take care of the Bridge Cam, if I remember right the cam is in an apartment of somebody that also lives in Finland and travels between the two. I know there was a hardware problem sometime ago and it seemed like that was fixed but if the person in out of the U.S. when it freezes it has to wait until they return.

I also have been wondering about George I know he said he had some tests before he left for the summer and they were OK but I thought he would have been back by now. I would not want to be on the big lake with some of the storms that have come through last week, or with the cold winds from the north. I keep checking daily and expecting to find an update from him

By Sean Finnegan (Sean) on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - 11:16 pm:

On 9/17 we passed through Eagle Harbor and drove by the Marina. George's boat, the Peregrine, was moored next to the Isle Royale Queen, which was visiting with a tour group. We did not stop as there was a lot of activity as the tour group was preparing for a picnic. George was there, tending to his 'Pride and Joy'.

By Carole (Carole) on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 - 07:20 am:

Was up at the Shoreline the first week in Oct. and George's boat was not at the marina but he was at home the first few days we were there. Van was gone when we left a week later. Maybe he went back to Minn./Wisc. where he has family.
