Eight years ago, the Pasty Cam page had this beach shot and talked about weather like mid-July. Today, the Keweenaw will be lucky to see 60 degrees, although we had a beautiful weekend. In another week, a sunny day will be a great excuse to drive up Brockway for the colors.

Good morning all yooper lovers. It's a nice fall day here. 60 degrees here. It's going to be a beautiful day in the UP.

Charlie, Just read your article that was posted yesterday about senior housing/care...and I couldn't agree with you more. It's sad but true, that our government's priorities for senior citizens are at the bottom of the list...and the closing of Still Waters, while the ratio of the senior population is increasing, is evident of that.
Makes no sense to me, as to Michigan's lack of funds for Still Waters...while at the same time the state recently increased welfare benefits, so that women under the age of 20 who have children, get extra welfare benefits. Hmmm....

I agree its sad about Still Waters, but its not that funding has been cut for seniors its been reroutd to new senior programs. Home healthcare is more available now so seniors can stay in their own home much longer now. The issue is most programs have about a 25 yr. life then fade from the scene. Its much easeir in Gov't to invent new programs to en courage us tax payers to grudgingly pay our taxes toward than to ask us for more money on an old program. I am sure that the elderly/ disabled are happy to stay in their home a few more years.

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 08:20 pm:

Tell that to the elderly/disabled at Still Waters who have been told they can't.

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 08:42 pm:

Thanks for the birthday wishes,Deb, Mikie and Sur5er! Spent it as I usually do doing errands! The kids are taking me out to eat this weekend. Fran

I feel bad for them, I didn't say it was proper. I'm just saying with the new home health care programs there is not enough money to maintain the older programs and the voting tax payers ars not willing. It hurts a lot of people that are stuck in the middle. The only cure would be vote for more funding/taxes. Rural Developement programs all over are suffering. Rural devopement Rentals that used to adjust rent based on income and even allowed people between jobs to live rent free ( temporarely) so that family could still have a good home now are evicting the resident if they do not have income in 30 days.
