The "Keweenaw Park Cottage". Anybody have any ideas where this was located?
I'll be back later today to fill you in on why the Pasty Cam was late today.

Do you think on these days when Charlie is slow to set up things, he is mostly watching the poor Packers hoping Favre can pull one out in spite of their porous defense? It would make sense: how long will it be before Green Bay ever again gets a q- back with Favre's abilities? The pathetic Lions have been waiting 50 years now to see the likes of Bobby Layne, and it sure doesn't look like they are any closer than they were with Harrington -- or Milt Plum, their much-maligned q-back in the '60s. Oh, well, with pro football like this it makes it easier to grub away in the basement discarding this and packing that as we work toward our big moving day to head back to the U.P.

In the 1950's the present day Keweenaw Mountain Lodge was known as the Keweenaw Park Resort and since there have always been cottages there as well I believe this is the same place.

I LIKE THE COMMENTS - HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE IN MY SHOES - A PACKER FAN LIVING IN LIONS TERRITORY - AND NOTHING WORKING - Imagin that photo in full color !!!!
By Danbury (Danbury) on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 07:10 pm:
Ouch. Yeah, Deb, without ever having been near that place, much less that time, I'd have to say it absolutely seems like you're quite right.

It's not where it used to be. It is still there in part as are the shuffle board courts. In the very back of the picture is the green of the 5th hole on the golf course. The picture was taken from the back porch of the Lodge, near where the bar is today.
By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 08:00 pm:
Is the rock garden still there?
By Herb Blue (Hablue) on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 08:04 pm:
Wish they had color film to see the gardens.
By k j (Kathiscc) on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 08:38 pm:
Jarmo- I hope that really did help you and you aren't just being nice... As you can see I was here at 5:45 am, but couldn't get back here til now...the picture says it's from Copper Harbor. LOL.
But the question was where in Copper Harbor? Your Sunday host never heard of the Mountain Lodge being called "Keweenaw Park Cottages" before.
By Dave Zelisse (Davedatroll) on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 08:43 pm:
Whah! That is a big rock garden; and a lot of weeding to keep it so neat! Since it's not color, does anyone know how to hand "colorize" photo's out there? This one would be a great candidate!
By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 08:53 pm:
I've never notice shuffleboard courts at the Mountain Lodge. Next time I'm up there I'll try to find this shot from the same perspective.
Speaking of perspective, I've posted an article written this weekend, over on the What'sUP page, about the announcement of Still Waters' closing. Just one point of view about the widespread failure of "Home For the Aged" facilities throughout the State of Michigan.
By the way, the reason for today's late Shoebox Memory all started with a couple of lightning bolts on Still Waters' roof about 2:30 this morning. Our crew spent the better part of the day tracking down the extent of the knocked-out equipment.
Regarding football: We rarely see any professional games. But we did have a chance to see Michigan beat up on Notre Dame yesterday. (Go Blue!)
By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 09:01 pm:
And Michigan moved up to 6th in the polls...and knocked Notre Dame way down. Go Blue!!!!
By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 09:13 pm:
Charlie, when I go to What'sUP, I get yesterday's. Some of us have posted today on there, but I can't find the article you mentioned just above.
By Bill Denning (Parpagayo) on Sunday, September 17, 2006 - 10:13 pm:
Michigan absolutely took Notre Dame apart yesterday.
Joy, joy. Go Blue!!
We were at ice skating class for our 8 year old, so we taped it, and watched on Sunday morning.
By Danbury (Danbury) on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 04:07 am:
Eugenia, thanks for pointing out the incorrect link on the Pasty Cam page. Sunday's "What'sUP" has been corrected. To go directly to the article, Click Here.
By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 06:47 am:
I'm with all of you guys! Go Blue! They usually shoot themselves in the foot when playing Notre Dame so we were hootin' and hollerin' when they manhandled them the way they did. Go Blue!
By Martha Kirk (Misschiefie) on Monday, September 18, 2006 - 11:23 am:
And the best thing is that Notre Dame will be so mad that they should absolutely pulverize MSU next weekend!
By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 07:26 am:
Martha, I'd much rather see Notre Dame get pulverized 2 weeks in a row. Oh would that make my year!!!!!! Then they could go on and lose the rest of their games too. LOL
By Lisa Walters (Ypsilisa) on Friday, September 22, 2006 - 02:27 pm:
I'm quite sure the gardens were at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, as I have that real photo post card and many more from there. :) Lisa
