Bear Bluff, captured here eight years ago by Amy Irish, is a favorite hiking spot in the Keweenaw. The mouth of the Montreal River is in the distance.

By FJL (Langoman) on Thursday, August 17, 2006 - 08:43 am:

Look's like everything is well in "Pasty land" this morning. Who was it that said "May the bird of paradise.........." I think it was Johnny Carson. One of the great one's. Have a good day........

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, August 17, 2006 - 10:24 am:

Wish I could say the conditions in Houston were beautiful. Supposed to hit the century mark again today; at least the humidity hasn't been too oppressive, but that's supposed to change this weekend. I imagine the power companies are loving this with all the AC's running here. I'm suprised the dial on our meter hasn't spun off yet.....

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Thursday, August 17, 2006 - 12:13 pm:

Yea, Deb!!!

By Cotton (Cotton) on Thursday, August 17, 2006 - 12:50 pm:

Say Hi to the gang for me. I am somewhere Wichita right now.

The young lady in the picture from 8 years ago is Charmaine Bardo of Ahmeek, who - it just so happens - is getting married this Saturday in Grand Rapids. Congratulations, Charmaine, from all of the old gang in Eagle River.

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Thursday, August 17, 2006 - 01:43 pm:

P.S. Charmaine's future groom is Steve Veenman, a Chemical Engineering graduate of Michigan Tech (Class of 2003)

RD Iowa, have you ever met some one famous? Or bumped shoulders with one? LOL

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Thursday, August 17, 2006 - 09:43 pm:

I was almost run over once by Gerald Ford's limo in Washington, DC.

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Thursday, August 17, 2006 - 11:08 pm:

Back when my sister and I were teenagers(50's) we were walking past the jewelry store in Hancock and Bobby Rydell some how got in front of us and we knocked him down. I think he had had a few. He was in town to appear at the Teen Center. I don't think he did tho.We were shocked when we saw who we knocked down.

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Friday, August 18, 2006 - 12:22 am:

Fran: Gov. G. Mennen Williams, Hank Snow, Ernest Tubb, Connie Kalitta (famous race car driver 60s, 70s, 80s), Peter Stroh (owner Strohs Brewery), Bob Jones (Bob Jones University), Gordie Howe, Patti Page, Mort Neff, Spike Jones, and I'm quite sure I sat next to Marlo Thomas in grade school!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, August 18, 2006 - 12:32 am:

Gov. Williams marched in the 1949 Hubbell parade and stopped at our house and had a beer with my Dad. When I was an Union official in the seventies I was at a meeting in Minnesota where Murial Humphry was speaking, they needed an escort for her to help her on to the stage. I was prematurely gray and she chose me to sit with her since she said she wouldn't feel so old if someone looked older, at the time I was only thirty five.

Catching up on weeks of messages. Can't resist adding this. I
chased JFK along Gratiot Avenue in Detroit when he was
campaigning for the presidency. I managed to shake his hand and
refused to wash it for at least a week!
