Lightning storms are scary for some people and others find them fascinating. I suppose it depends on how close you are to the booms and flashes. In the case of today's shot from George Hoyem, it looks like the bright bolts are off in the distance, so they aren't a threat to the photographer (or us!). As bright as they were, lighting up the sky and Portage Lake in Houghton, they still didn't blot out the lights on in homes along the shoreline. Most likely those folks were hunkered down, waiting out the storm.

Excellent shot. It is reminiscent of Dan Urbanski's work.

Beautiful picture...reminds of one of the times I was on Agate Beach and a storm was rolling in...I should find those pics and send them.

Great picture. Reminds me of when we lived in Eagle River. We use to enjoy watching the storms come across the lake. The lighting storms were real light shows. We even enjoyed the winter storms as they headed our way.

Beautiful picture! I would hate to be on the lake while this photo was taken.

Don't think it's a function of distance. I enjoy a nice thunderstorm once in a while, while my landlady is getting scared even when it's miles away over the Black Forest and all one hears is a distant rumbling.
