Good morning. It is sunny today and,after a dismal day yesterday,it is good to see the sun. Hope you all have a nice day.

Who's responsible for raising Saturday's temperature every time I check it online? I see it now says 100 degrees! And I'll be serving boiling soup at the Aura Jamboree. My glasses will probably slide right off my nose into the soup! It'll taste good though, regardless of the air temperature! My daughter and almost 5-year old granddaughter are coming with us. The little one is worried about crossing the Mackinaw Bridge ("It might be wood and crash down.") and the cottage ("You won't make me sleep outside, will you?"). And, of course, she thinks wild bears are roaming everywhere you look.

Just got this email from my son Rob sitting in a

so today has been great... went to the top of my first alp! now I'm
sitting in Grödig, Austria (try and find that :P) waiting for a bus to
Berchtesgaden. You know that lake they swim in at the end of Band of
Brothers... I'm pretty sure its the Königsee there. But I'm heading there
as a random little day trip. Vienna was cool, amazing buildings.

Marsha--Have fun! It is HOT up here. We were really hot while scrambling around the rocks at the Silver Falls near Hermann yesterday. My 84 year old father and 12 year old dog were absolutely amazing despite the heat. Gas is expensive--especially if you're driving the the camp pickup which must get 6 miles to the gallon.

Now both the bridge cam and the bridge are stuck.... :)

I can't believe it! Now they're saying 101 degrees for Saturday for Baraga area weather. Maybe we should be serving gazpacho instead of bean soup!

Alex,if the bridge is stuck there is no other way to get across.You sit there or go back in the direction you came:)

and you can see (or could see before it got dark) that the bridge isn't stuck; only BridgeCam is once again stuck.

But I really am glad they let that little boat finally make it under the bridge! :)

Was someone kidding us???

I thought perhaps the extreme heat today (highs of 90° at the airport, 95° in Lake Linden, and 94.1° in Pelkie) had caused some components of the bridge to expand such that it could not be raised to its full elevation for the S/V Denis Sullivan that's visiting Houghton this week.

Maybe it'll still be there when we're in Houghton Sunday. Here we come!
