The lovely garden and gazebo at Still Waters hosted "Garden of Art" eight years ago. With a little rain, that garden is just as beautiful today.

Also, the votes are in and counted and the winners of the 2006 Pasty Poetry contest have been announced.

I am just catching up after returning from the Copper Country's pristine beauty and weather, so I add a belated Happy Birthday to Renee (sur5er) and a wish to have been able to have some of the "Aura" bean soup to Marsha!

belvedere

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 11:21 am:

Somehow I think Lake Superior is going to be a popular keweenaw destination this weekend. ;-)

and I have to ref all 3 soccer games saturday afternoon! Do not get between me and the Lake after the last game ends saturday!

========================================

... Heat wave to move into west and central Upper Michigan
Thursday and persist into the weekend...

Over the past few days... heat has built up across the plains. A
low pressure system over Manitoba will move across northern
Ontario on Thursday... bringing the heat into west and central
Upper Michigan. High temperatures on Thursday are expected to
climb into the low 90s away from the Great Lakes shorelines.
Another low pressure system will move out of Manitoba into
northern Ontario on Saturday... bringing even warmer air to Upper
Michigan... with many locations away from Lake Michigan topping out
in the mid 90s Saturday afternoon. In addition to the hot weather
during the day... temperatures at night are also expected to be
very warm... with locations near Lake Superior and over the
Keweenaw peninsula only dropping into the 70s Friday night and
Saturday night. A cold front to bring relief from the heat is not
expected to move through Upper Michigan until Sunday or Monday.

By Joyce Krauss (Joy2114) on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 01:02 pm:

Hi, I am a new member trying to find some info. Maybe some of the old timers may remember.

In Michigan in the 70's there was a TV show called George Piertott presents...often he had a guest first name of Stan, trying to find out the last name. The guest rode a bicycle across the county and often had humors clips of himself in Michigan.

Any help would be appreciated.

George Pierots guest was named Stan Midgely who rode his bike all over the country, especially out West.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 01:43 pm:

At info.detnews.com I found information about the George Pierrot show and the guy you are wondering about was Stan Midgley. Maybe you can Google Stan's name. For some reason, I can no longer post a link (blue) on here. Something must be "unclicked" on my computer.

Here's a tidbit of news that many of you might be interested in. It's about the Dan Urbanski Artist-in-Residence Program at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Dan Urbanski was a regular contributor, with his beautiful photographs here on the Pasty Cam pages and was also instumental with his insight and technical skills, breathing new life into this daily feature. Check out this link, to find out how his memory is being honored in Ontonagon County: A labor of history: Volunteers build home for Dan Urbanski Artist in Residence program.

Hi Roudy: yup, home safe to the hot and humid. Oh what gorgeous, bug-free weather we had that week, hey?

By Diane Larson (Larsondml) on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 05:29 pm:

Hi everyone!
I am very excited to come visit Copper Harbor. My husband visited there with his family since the 60's every year. He has wonderful memories and wants to share it with our children and me. He use to stay at a place called Berghs Resort. Is this place still in existence. We will be leaving Oklahoma next week and I will need to make reservations. I could not find anything anywhere about Berghs but before I make reservations anywhere else I thought I would check with you guys. Thanks
Diane

Belvedere was also a Plymouth model car produced throughout the 60's, and is what the Roadrunner and GTX models were based from.....

By Margo (Margo) on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 09:33 pm:

Bobg! Thanks for sharing the letter from your son in Europe. It was so interesting. You have to be very proud of him. Rightfully so.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 10:38 pm:

the car was spelled Belvidere after the name of the town in which it was produced

By BJmilford (Bjmilford) on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 10:55 pm:

Ah...the Belvidere. Learned to drive on the streets and the 'tracks' with my mom's.

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Thursday, July 13, 2006 - 07:34 am:

Maija SSSSSSSSHHHH on the bugs. We don't want them to know.

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, July 13, 2006 - 08:01 am:

Kathy P. right on with the spelling of Belvidere, however, Capt. Paul I know of a 1953 and '56 model Belvideres, they have been around longer than the 60's.

1. Allpar.com: Plymouth cars of 1949 to 1952

Quote:

[The Cranbrook] only lasted three short years, then Cranbrook itself was to be replaced by a name from sunnier climes -- Belvedere, a ritzy California community [and also an Ohio town that would be home to a Chrysler factory]. But it was good while it lasted."

Goes to show ya you can always learn something on this site!!! The Belvidere I was familiar with sure wasn't anything but a family car; wasn't aware of the Belvedere. cool

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Thursday, July 13, 2006 - 05:38 pm:

Guess I am not old enough for that type of Belvedere. Thanks everyone for all of the update of that word!

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, July 13, 2006 - 06:03 pm:

I believe Stephen King's scary car movie "Christine" was a 50's model Belvadere.
