Eight years ago on the Pasty Cam, Jonathan Hopper caught this group of runners in Eagle Harbor preparing for the 19th annual Popeye Run.

I decided yesterday to make a box in memory of my dad, who passed away May 23. Into it I'll put his obituary, pictures, cards, including those made for me by my 3rd grade students, etc. What does this have to do with pastycam? I just went back and printed 10 pages of condolences from my pastycam friends from that week! What a nice addition!

I happened upon this message board because I have been watching webcams in the Keweenaw before we vacation up there next week. I don't know if this is the right place to ask these questions, but you all seem like nice people, so here I go. (If this isn't the right place, you'll never hear from me again!)

Anyhow, we're coming up primarily to see lighthouses, but I've read that there are a lot of waterfalls in the area too. Are they marked by signs, or do I have to rely on the directions in my visitor's guide?

This link should help you find lighthouses: Seeing the Light

Try this link for waterfalls: Upper Michigan waterfalls

Also, I read somewhere that there is a bike trail that goes from Copper Harbor to Ft. Wilkins S.P. Where does that trail start in Copper Harbor and where could we park?

Here's a link to biking in the Copper Harbor area. There's also a link to a map for the Mountain Bike Trail: Copper Harbor info

Thanks for all of your help. Can't wait to visit the UP again next week!

We are nice people and this is the place to ask questions! If you don't get many responses, everyone must be on vacation and try again in a few days (not on the weekend when there is less conversation). I can't find my well-thumbed waterfall book, but I think it is by Penrose, and it's the Michigan waterfall bible! I think I also have their lighthouse book. Where are you coming from? My favorite waterfall is the Silver River Falls north of L'anse on the east side of Keweenaw Bay, but there are also lots of good ones in the Keweenaw. My favorite lighthouse is the Huron Island Lighthouse, which isn't in the Keweenaw either, but nearby. Try to lay your hands on those two books, and you're all set.

One of my favorite waterfalls in Jacobs falls. Of course that is next to the Jampot and a great place to stop for jams, jellies and muffins. This is on 26 just out of Eagle River and on the way to Eagle Harbor. Pass there -- is the great sand bay. In Eagle Harbor there is the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse - another great stop and by the time you get to Copper Harbor you can see the Copper Harbor lighthouse. Years ago - my husband and I took the tour for the 150th anniversary. It really is a great trip to take. I found that when we stay in the UP the people are very friendly and help us out to find new things to see. Actually I can't wait -- we will be up in about 4 weeks.
P.S. Mary Drew - thanks for getting me back on again:)

Tara, I think I recognize your name from the Great Lakes Lighthouse group on Yahoo. You will love the lighthouses in the Keweenaw. That's what drew me to the area in the first place. The lighthouses are fabulous, but I also fell in love with the area for lots of reasons. I'm sure you will discover several while you're there, too. Have a great trip. I'm sure you will want to take tons of pictures. The people and the scenery are wonderful. Enjoy!
