Lori Houle has captured a photo of a modern day Huckleberry Finn. This little guy seems oblivious to his surroundings as he makes his way to his favorite fishing hole. Sure is a great way to spend a day here UP North. Just gather up your fishing gear and head out to catch some dinner, along with a bit of calming quietness to boot! That's what it looks like Sean has found while wetting his line in the second shot taken by his Dad, Stanley Spruce. I think I'm going to have to dig out my tackle box and see if I can't catch a few fish to put in the pot and make some Kalamojakka.

Translations:
Poika - boy
Kalamojakka (pronounced kah-lah-moy-ah-kah) - fish stew

My kind of day!

By Richard L. Barclay (Notroll) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 07:13 am:

I see from the shadow and foot that the little guy is going to have a chance to talk over his world with someone else. It was a favorite time of mine to spend with my sons, too. Except I'm ever to be blamed for the "big one" that got away while I readied a camera for a photo. In retaliation I had my picture taken with a pike the size of my Rapala lure while fishing on Schlatter Lake with the wronged son.

It's supposed to be in the 90's here today. 'Notroll' Richard Barclay spent some time with his boys keeping cool on a day like this a few years back...

Wonder if there would be any interest in seeing Pasty Central do a "Pasty Cam Kids" calendar one of these days?

Ice Creeeeem!

I remember taking my kids fishing for the first time. There's a little lake (really kind of a pond)we could walk to and they had sticks with some string. Never caught anything, but they sure enjoyed their "fishing trip" that day.

Relaxation!

By Laurie B. (Ratherberiding) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 10:18 am:

There's a story my husband tells about the time his Dad took him fishing when he was just a little guy. He put a harness around him to he could tie him to a tree so he didn't fall in. He caught a fish and called for his Dad, "I got him Daddy, I got him".

Great pictures again today..How appropriate that I have a fishing expedition planned with my 5 year old grandson with his Winnie the Pooh rod scheduled for Monday right here at our Lake Erie Metropark.
http://www.metroparks.com/parks/pk_lake_erie.php

I remember walking out to Schlatters Lake with my buddies along a Pole Line that ran out to the lighthouse on Gull Island..Is this still the only means of getting to that lake and is it still loaded with gazillions of small northern pike? Hope you all have a nice 90* weekend!!!

By james f. haven (Technoido) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 11:41 am:

That second picture almost looks like Seneca Lake. Just wondering.
Got rousted by a brown hat there a couple years ago. Had my
license, so all was cool. Never have caught anything over 4 inches,
but just spending the time there is good.

Are all of the votes in for the 2007 Pasty calendar? Any sneak peaks at the winning pics?

Bucolic!

Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper):
"Wonder if there would be any interest in seeing Pasty Central do a "Pasty Cam Kids" calendar one of these days?"

Now that would really be a great idea! Yes!

But to put that endorsement in context, you must understand that it comes from an 'ol curmudgeon with a strong dislike for the all too common TV and radio ads that feature some nauseatingly, insufferably precocious gurgling little snot-nosed brat trying to sell me something! That's enough to cause an instant click on the off switch, lest I be tempted to toss a brick at the offending appliance instead. That is exactly the sort of image that we do not need on PastyCam or in the calendar.

Not to fear, however, as we have an abundance of naturally charming, Mayberry-esque, utterly unaffected and non-precocious moppets in Pasty-land, and photographers who go to great effort to capture that magic essence of "joy of youth in the Yoop" without exploiting the kids! Today's photos and certainly Brita Haapala's are just a few shining examples of how to catch the magic!

Not trying to sell you anything,

FRNash,
Here's one that should fit your qualifications that I found among Tina Hyrkas's photos.

I fell in love with the little lady - there's just a slight age difference and I don't have any grandchildren I could even introduce to her. And besides the kids there are many photos of folks that I'd like to hear some of their stories in these albums, along with the great scenery! I bet you could even put together a calendar of the Pasty Gang and some of their stories/bios.

By Mary Lou Curtin (Marylou) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 04:34 pm:

Regarding Brita's children....they could fill a calendar all by themselves... they remind me of all the good, simple, joys of living in the Copper Country.....true family values..... her family photos make my heart smile....she manages to capture the simple pleasures.... and I am reminded of my boys and all the fun we had at camp in Bootjack with Grandparents and dogs, etc...what fun it was....her children are delightful......mine were, too

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 08:05 pm:

Keep it at scenery!!!!!!!!

By Margo (Margo) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 08:15 pm:

I completely agree with DEB S. Keep the format as it is now.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 09:07 pm:

another vote for keeping the scenery

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 09:25 pm:

Me too

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 09:35 pm:

I think I see which way the vote is going ... and I generally much prefer the scenic variety myself!

Note however that Charlie did not say:
"Wonder if there would be any interest in seeing Pasty Central do a "Pasty Cam Kids" calendar in lieu of the traditional scenic variety one of these days?"

Just to clarify: Anyone opposed to a separate Pasty Cam Kids calendar in addition to the traditional scenic one?

I will acknowledge that there might be risks ... including a potential for triggering great and undying animosities among different sets of doting parents about whose kids are in vs. whose precious little darlings are "left out" -- clearly not a happy outcome. If that would be the result, we may as well "ferget it" - Too "political", no way to win that!

By John Beckius (Johncantonmi) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 09:41 pm:

pref er scenery also.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 10:08 pm:

I have no desire for a separate "kids" calendar. Everybody thinks their kids are the cutest. It will cause problems. It will make for a lot of conversation.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Sunday, July 16, 2006 - 03:35 am:

Do prefer the scenery, too - going to be being an uncle some time come october is more than enough kid-stuff for me.
However, can't help but wondering wether some kind of (additional, of course) pasty.kid-calendar wouldn't make a nice fund riser for something - not for Stillwaters, perhaps, though ... *g*

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Sunday, July 16, 2006 - 03:34 pm:

I think it should stay scenery as well. But if someone is looking for a children's calender that is not selling anything but cuteness then this is for you. The money raised goes to support families of children with Down's Syndrome. Cynthia Kidder is the lady that started this calender. She is a wonderful person who I have had the pleasure of dealing with over the years. You can find it on this website: www.bandofangels.com
