On a sunny day in 1947, young Eleanor Beaudry started a long journey through the lens of Bert DeVriendt, to emerge more than half a century later as a Shoebox Memory on the Pasty Cam. Along the way Brian Rendel provided some assistance, scanning the original print for the Guest Gallery, where he received this informative inquiry:
Brian,
I was searching the net for information on my grandmother who lived in Lake Linden and Dollar Bay, Michigan when I came across a photo of my Great-Aunt Eleanor Beaudry that you had uploaded to Pasty Central. Eleanor lived in Houghton till her death in 2002 and her brother Francis died shortly after. My grandmother, Florence died 2 years later. There is only one surviving member of the Beaudry family from Houghton.
I was hoping that I could get a hi-res photo that I could print for my mother, who was Eleanor's niece. Eleanor Beaudry lived quite the storied life. She never did marry but was an adventurist along with being a gourmet cook. I still remember having a wonderful fresh lake trout dinner at her house in Houghton. She also was the first woman pilot in the Houghton/Hancock area and she was an administrator on Isle Royale till her retirement.
Thanks for any assistance you can give.
Ray Irving
Brian replied with 2 photos of Ray's great-aunt Eleanor.
If you are a Pasty Cam regular, with your official 2006 Pasty Cam Calendar on the wall at home, you'll notice that the late Bert DeVriendt also provided the photo for the current month of July. If you don't have the 2006 Calendar, there are still a few left which we are giving as a thank-you for contributions in the current fund-raiser for Still Waters, where Pasty Central was born 10 years ago.
